dont use 85-90. way to thick for nissan box's 90% of all nissan boxs over here dont like the heavy weight oils. Makes it a mission to change gear 24/7. I used 80w90 in my r30 skyline (l20et). And it was a complete *****.

After 3 years of putting up with that ive now replaced it with DexIII Auto trans fluid. Which is spec'd from nissan for all RWD box's They love close to water thickness.

If you dont want to drop down to 10w ATF. You can also use 15w-40 Diesel oil. ( diesel oil has cleening agents and low foaming aditives).

Your best bet is to use ATF. You wont regret it

If you look in your owners manual it will tell you what fluid you need...I think Sarin is right. It will also tell you the capacity, I know on my fourth gens it was 4.5 quarts. When filling a 5 speed tranny you just fill it until it runs out of the fill hole, so its not really an exact science. As for the grease I have just used general purpose grease, I don't know what is recomended but it has worked fine for me. Its sold at any auto parts store. You can look around in the grease section and see if there is one that is recomended for axles.

I never had an issue in my car with that weight of gear oil. Personally if it was a 4th gen or newer car, I would use Redline MT90...but not on an older car.

If you have a NAPA parts store near you, they sell GL-4 gear oil(greenish color)which I believe is what Maximas require, or atleast thats what my 5th gen requires. GL-5 is amber in color so beware. No experience with Redline MT.

that napa stuff is 85w90 too though. but i've been using it for over 12k miles and have had absolutely no problems whatsoever in my 3rd gen. it's probably your best bet to be honest. you won't find 80w90 anwhere unless it's gl5 which supposedly will eat away at your synchros.

Coastal?

If you bought coastal, then you bought the wrong stuff..

Coastal is only to top off,it should not be used as your main fluid...

Go to napa and get the gl-4..

If its valvoline, then its GL-5... will eventually cause your syncros to well, dissolve.

When I purchased my 5th gen used, it developed a leak at both axles. It was a steady drip that you could count by the minute. The fluid was amber so I knew this was going to be bad. How long it was in there, I don't know. I brought it back before my 90 day warranty was up and they said the gearbox had to be rebuilt. They tried to settle on the axle seal story but I knew better. I haven't tried the Redline MT90 thus far, but I stick with the dino GL-4 from NAPA

I use Redline MTL when it calls for ATF or regular oil. It has the perfect properties for use in ATF apps. I get better shifting and all around performance from MTL.
