L 2.8 Maxima Oil pressure?
#2
Hmm, very good question. Nissan does not give a specific oil pressure, probably due to oil temp differences. As a minimum, you should get something like 20 psi @ idle, 60 psi @ speed when the oil is cold. At operating temp, should be from 4 psi idle, 30 psi moving.
As a optimal range, with all new oil control stuff, it should be something like 25-60 cold, and 5-40 warm.
If you dont have a cooler (you should get one) and drive agressive the oil temp will get up to 280F kinda easy and the oil pressure will drop dramatically, to almost nothing at idle, and not alot at high speed, which is a no-no so if your pressure falls beyond 3-4 at idle id shut it down and get a new oil pump.
I wouldnt use the stock maxima gauge as something to tell you what the pressure is, the gauge is really there to show you if you have pressure or not, and dosent respond quickly enough to really help you if you lost all pressure at once. As you probably know when you lose oil flow things go south fast.
Get pics of your car up! I want to see!

L 2.8 Maxima oil pressure.
Thanks. My car is at 10 psi at idle and I am using an after market VDO gauge. The car is running hot in stop and go traffic.I put a large aluminum radiator in the car but don't have a fan shroud for it. My next thing is to get an after market water temp gauge and get rid of the stocker. I will get some pictures on soon.
Thanks again.
