quick y-pipe question

this may be a stupid question, but would an early 3rd gen (VG30E SOHC) y-pipe fit a 2nd gen at all. I am mainly wondering this due to the lack of an aftermarket performance y-pipe for our car. If they do fit, how much less restrictive is it due to it being newer? I wouldn't want to have one fabbed for me, as I have little money since I am a college student. From experience I know that the suspension and brakes fit, but just wondering if the y-pipe and such would fit as well

No. 2nd gen doesn't have a y-pipe...it's a cross-over which doesn't have the same restrictive design like 3rd and newer gens. Besides a y-pipe wouldn't fit because of the oil filter.

Yes a downpipe would pretty much sum it all up.

Well since were relatively on the subject, can the entire VG or maybe just the intake manifold from the non se 3rd gens be swapped onto the 2nd gen. I tried a search, but gave up.

hmm, since it a pipe pretty much the same as the rest of the exhaust, and not a y-pipe I might have one fabbed for me and dyno it. of course I will do this only when I get mo money

Yes it can, but you'd have to rework the plumbing a little (EGR, sensors, etc). The mount bosses should all be the same. The tranny definately will bolt right up.

Well isn't an aftermarket performance one....it would have to be custom made. You can probably find OEM replacements online, and thru parts stores.

MAX 86, do you have pictures of yours? Dont mean to be a pest, but working on my 69 chevy pickup is a lot easier than my 87 Max at finding parts.

it may be easier to do away with any seperate down pipes and make headers one peice up to a main collector behind the transmission.....but thats my thinking.

i think outside the pipe some times

Well actually there is only one pipe that goes down. The other is horizontally connecting the two banks. The headers are rather small though.
