I joined this forum today after buying my first Maxima. It's an 88 Wagon.
60k miles and very clean, but it sat for 6 years in a garage. I picked it up for $400. Drove it home and parked it in the garage, where it will stay for a couple weeks. Everything on this car works. Moonroof, the super 80's hi-tech stereo, AC etc. It was owned by an older couple that mainly towed it behind their motorhome. The exterior is perfect, with the exception of a crumple fender. That accident cost the lady her license, then it was parked.
The only known problems I've found so far are the struts. They're cashed out, and the tires are way out of round from sitting.
I think I scored.

Yes I'm a product of the great depression, born in 1936! I've had 38 cars since the first that I bought in 1954, and know a few things automotive, and feel I can still contribute. I had a left knee replaced about 5 months ago, and it puts a crimp in my out & under repairs, but I'm still active, and the mind is still sharp.Earl
I just bought an 82 diesel wagon the other day. It has 139,000 miles on it which ain't bad for a 25 year old car. The paint is faded and the front seats need to be covered but everything else is in good shape. Ooops, I forgot about that cracked dash. The engine runs perfect and the automatic transmission works perfect. The only thing I have found wrong with it is that the ball joints and calipers are worn out. Also, the crazy woman I bought it from let someone rob the A/C compressor off of it but, I already have all that stuff ordered and it should be here any day. I bought this car to hold me over until I found a small diesel pickup but, after driving it, I'm not even interested in a pickup anymore. You can carry all your gear, tools, groceries, whatever in it without having to worry about the weather. I may not look very cool driving it but, I feel cool knowing that I'm getting 30+ MPG in a car that has a bulletproof engine and tranny that could wear out three car bodies. My wife doesn't get it and thinks that I've gone mad but, I don't care. I like this car.
