I have a 1985 Maxima SE with 124,000 miles. I just bought it and got it through inspection, so now I have to start thinking about all the little maintenance items I'll need to square away before I have anough confidence to daily drive it.

Well, having it on a lift was encouraging, other than a busted vacuum line the car seems to be in really good mechanical shape. No leaks from what I can see.

One thing though. The PO said he had never replaced the timing belt, and in the service manual and the owners manual I was not able to locate an interval to change it. Also on this site the service intervals don't list the timing belt.

So does anyone know of an interval to change the timing belt on this thing, and also is it an interference engine?

The recomended interval is 60K, and yes it is an interferance engine.(darn!)

Replace the water pump, front crankshaft and camshaft oil seals, thermostat, drive belts at the sametime. This way you won't have any leaks or overheating problems that is difficult to fix. Besides there shouldn't be any extra labor charge to replace all the parts either.
