hmmm

i dont know anything about an 84 nissan maxima but my 87 nissan creamed a 96 thunderbird v8 in quarter mile and was head to head with a 94 camaro in quarter.
raced a 94 cavalier and stomped competition pretty easily.

i think it is the nissan's v6 in a lightweight tin body that allows it to kill competition.

thunderbird = v8
camaro = v6
cavalier = 4 cyl

YEAH for real whats your car modded with!!

I stood head to head with a slightly modded neon and kept up to a turbo early model mitsubishi Eclipse and got beat by a damn early model Pathfinder. Smoked another max on the High way once. it was an 87-88.But I dont think our cars (stock)can beat anything really. Unless its a way old car or a geo metro or cavalier,yeah, smoked my friends cavalier it was wayyy fun too!

mod'd nissan?

the engine is completly stock and so is the transmission.

my step brother owns the v8 thunderbird and we took to the local drag way.
The nissan is a v6 in the lightest body around. the only draw back to the car is the handling and that after 80 mph it slows down considerably.
im not talking about a mile long race but the 1/4 mile, and unless your tranny is slipping or your car is not tuned up it will get up and GO!
although it is bad for the car itself, if i stomp my nissan it will switch from 1st to second gear at 40-45 mph.

I can stomp on mine and it does the same thing

as yours. PLus thefact that I ve never really raced my car except against my friends 99 trans am v8, got dusted!! but it was fun. the neon well I floored it and so did he I was walking on him but then I guess he lowered the gear and we stayed head and head then I saw some lights and didnt want to get caught so I slowed way down.

my races

my racing was done from a dead stop

my head to head with a 94 camaro was only until i hit 80 and then he decided to go bye bye

cavaliers are just pathetic cars and my step brother's thunderbird is just for top speed....he would dust me from 80-100

although a neat goody is the thunderbird cuts off after 115

98 transam v8? good god i wouldnt even consider it. not stock anyway. i wouldnt even consider a camaro v8, or 92+ mustangs.

Ok well I can completely believe the thing about the 4 cyl. cavaliers, but I dunno how well a stock, or lightly modded second gen max will run against a Z24. I can believe that you could run with a bottom of the barrel, v6 camaro. And as for the thunderbird, I wouldn't know because I haven't really seen them in action. I figure since I have a 5-speed and engine mods I should defintely be able to take the cars you mentioned.

I've beaten alot of cars in mine...

They were mostly 4 banger accords, EX/LX/DX civic's, some CRX's, V8 cougar, 3rd gen max, 2 altima's, 2 sentras/200sx's, about 4-6 V6 94-98 mustangs, several rangers/S10's and neons. All these kills were before I did the heads/cams/protorque TC upgrades. I suggest you guys do the 60mm TB upgrade and make a custom cold air intake. Once you get a MAF adapter you can use the 3" dryer hose from home depot for like $12 and it will be just fine. Also I should point out the custom CAI I made, gave me around the same power increase as 60mm TB/UDP/exhaust. IMHO the exhaust should be the last mod because it gives less power than anyother mod. But when I put in my hi flow cat I noticed a positive difference (stocker had 219k miles!).

an 87 nissan maxima will run with a 94 v6 camaro STOCK.

i suggest a tune up or checking your engine for problems. sounds like you have a power loss.

My 86 Max is a rocket

I hung right in there against an 88 Yugo with a dead plug, I nearly beat an 82 automatic diesel chevette. I raced an old lady on a goped once and beat her handily..I had already planned to swerve and force her off the road if I saw her catching up to me. I am hoping to soon add 175 horses of nitrous so I can take on the Metros and Diesel Semis that keep leaving me in the dust at the stop lights.

Ah yes!

I remember the days I had my 87 5spd. It was morron and my friends called it the "brick". I raced any and everything that wanted to race and lemme tell 'ya that that car never was beat by much. Also, I always enjoyed sidestepping the clutch and watch the white smoke come off my cheap pep-boy futuras! hehe. More power to you guys with old maximas 'cause those are the cars that started it all!!

I didn't race much in the 87 Max, but I did beat a BMW 318ti, Infiniti G20 and a Lumina (LOL).

Hey man thats an awesome picture of a second gen maxand a Z! Its funny because stock second gen maxs are so neardy looking (I think) and 300zs are so mean looking. Are those both yours?

re: got rice?

Does you max have a wider stance than the Z? It seems that would hardly be true but it appears that way in your picture.

Wow.

Wow. That looks different from the 300Z that is a couple of blocks away ('93 I think). I wonder how the Z would do against the [Dodge] Stealth (my dream car).

Felix:
no, the Z is slightly wider. It's the angle of the picture that makes the Maxima look wider.

Chris:
the front end is aftermarket (Wings West). Here's how it looked before the front bumper was installed:

Re: races

You take Type-R's huh? Hmm, id have to see that to believe it. You have some really original mods for a second gen, do you have any pictures of your car? Id really like to see your C5's and clear tails.

I have raced and beaten the following:

1.) 120 hp Chevy Cavalier - I toyed with him for a while, made him think he was running neck and neck, then just floored it and hit almost 120 mph. Needless to say, I could barely see him in my rearview mirror.

2.) 150 hp quad four Sunfire - that was actually a pretty close race until we hit 75 then he started falling behind

3.) Honda Civic - this guy must have had $10K in body mods to make his car look fast, yet it wasn't fast at all. Once we started going up a hill, he started falling way behind.

4.) mid 90's V6 Mustang - I was at least 3 car lengths ahead of him going 100 mph

5.) stock mid 90's Mitsubishi Eclipse - beat him pretty easily.

6.) Honda CRX - I blew past him and then my friend driving behind me saw the dude's reverse lights come on! Apparently he wasn't paying too much attention while trying to catch me. Oops!

I raced a Chevy Camaro v6 in my 190hp 4.0 Jeep Cherokee and smoked his *** bad so I would imagine that a 160hp Maxima would be able to keep pace with one, if not beat it. I have yet to lose a race in my Max, but I don't go around challenging cars with V8's or turbos.

90 cavaliers have 3.1 liter engines and have something like 150 hp i think and there pretty quick starting off and my maxima seems pretty slow starting off but the after its going it picks up

Only the pre-94 Z24 Cavaliers had a 3.1 v6 engine. The base model had a 100 hp I-4 engine. They come with either a 3 speed automatic, which isn't too tough to beat, or a 5spd manual, which if you have an auto like me, it can be tough to beat. The new base Cavs and Sunfires have a 120hp I-4 and a 3spd auto. The Z24 Cavs/GT Sunfires have a 150hp quad four engine with a 4 spd auto. Those are hard to beat stock, and if they had a 5 spd manual and some slight mods, they could definitely take a 2gen Max with an auto.

3.1 liter was an option for 90+ cavaliers but 89 and earlier z24s had the 2.8 and it came in z24 but i've seen it in station wagons also the 3.1 did come stock in 90+z24s but the quad four was only avaliable in 95+ z24s as far as cavaliers go

Kills

I have killed a '95-97ish lumina 3.1, many accords/civics, pretty much anything I think I have a chance at - and I believe my car can do beat a lot of cars due to my driving. My favorite kill was my friends 1994 Celica GT-4. I SPANKED him before I got out of 1st. I have only lost to a moded Accord V-6('96ish I think) and an old chevy monte carlo(mid 80's). I have a 1985 SE 5-speed that I did all these kills in - none of the parts in my sig are for them though - they are all for my new ride - 1995 GXE auto.

Descent kills, but....

...there's a guy here in J.C., TN who has an '87 Max with a VG30ET/NOS running 12.7s in the 1/4 at Bristol. 8psi and he is the shop foreman at the local Nissan dealership. Just giving you something to think/ talk about.
