Hi all,
Since my '87 sat for about 6months b4 I saved it, I'm thinking I should do a tune up on it to try to solve my roughness and floaty idle that has come about recently.

I'm thinking plugs, wires and oil first off.
I'm also thinking I should change the idle air sensor and maybe the throttle position sensor - but I'm not sure where there parts are on the car!

I was also reading Mike's post about the maxima running rich in a previous thread about fast idle this and idle screws etc. - not really sure how to check these.

tia,
Mike

Black87,

To check and adjust your idle look behind the letter "N"
on your "N"issan intake plate. You'll see a big screw
which is your fast idle and a smaller one which is your
normal idle screw. Turn your car on with all your
accessories off. Your engine rpm should be at 700rpm. If
not adjust the idle screw first. If that doesn't work, then
adjust the fast idle screw. Hope this will help.

hi Mike,

thanks for the info, that is helpful. however, I am pretty sure my car idles around 900-1K right now. If I adjust the idle screw to idle around 700, when the idle drops down in regards to the current problem I'm having - it might drop to about 500 and stall. I guess I'll find out!

Is there is a idle air sensor on the Maxima, and if so, where is it located? also, a throttle position sensor?

tia,
Mike
