My friend just bought a 85 maxima. The turn signals don't work and it need struts. What else should I look for on a used maxima. I will be the main mechanic on it. I know that I can't do the struts but what do I need to look for. She got it at an auction. It runs great and has new brakes and tires. The body is in good shape. I usally work on Mopars. Thanks for the help guys. I know that these cars are awesome and powerful. I have ridden in them before and I like them I just need some pointers to get me up to speed.

it has an interference engine so make sure the timing belt has been changed at the proper time. Check transmission, they are one of the weakest links on maximas. Struts are not that hard to do, the fronts only take an hour or so but the rears, you have to take out the rear seat to get to the top bolts.

thanks

It also needs door seals and the power top isn't on the rails. Don't I need a compression spring tool for the struts? I thought that those were dangerous to do with out the proper tools. I also will get a book on it later. Is there one that you guys recommend? The fuse are fine in the car I did check those. Thanks.

Make sure that the fuel injector recall was done. I'm not sure if it applies to the '85, but I know it applied to my '88, and they aren't much different as far as the engine is concerned. If it has the electronic suspension, they are a lot more expensive to replace compared to the conventional suspension system. Also, this car has a ton of sensors, so you'll definitely need a repair manual to decipher the codes on the computer. I use a Chilton's manual, but the Haynes one is almost identical to it. I'd recommend either one of those books. I'm not sure if there are any other ones out there. Good Luck.

fixed turn signals

The hazards were not pushed in all the way. It was in between and not letting the turn signals work. Thanks for all of your help guys. I am sure that I will have many more questions.
