1st & 2nd Gens are fading away.....

Just read the "15 post rule". So when thats done I'll start a thread on it. It's a '82 with the 2.4 gas engine PW/PL/PS/PB moonroof am/fm none of which works and it doesn't run and the roof is rusted away but the AC is ice cold! At least it was free.....

one thing to check about the windows and such, is that nissan use to put a long term storage switch by the fuse box I'm not sure if that it will have it but it's worth a look before tearing stuff apart.

I may be selling my 1984 first gen soon enough for an unbelievably low price...........but only after I don't need it for my daily driver.
It's turbocharged, has a R200 differential, and I believe I have an entire 5 speed conversion other than the console insert, boot, pressure plate, clutch cylinders, and hard lines though I don't know the condition of the fs5w71b I have.
Yes, I have pedals brake and clutch and it looks like the S12 clutch pedals will bolt right in since I compared the two side by side and only find minor differences in the articulation which means it may be only a stroke length differece on the pedals.........either way.......I have the maxima pedals....brake and clutch in addition to a S12 clutch pedal which may end up in my M30.
I believe they stamped different floors between autos and manuals so you might need to modify something to fit the trans mount from the 5 speed maxima to fit one in a car that came with an auto.
R200 bolts in with a 200sx turbo R200 diff. mount and 280zx axles.
Old pic on balloon tires (which rub) before I went to 50 series tires (215/50 are sweet on these rims and don't rub but I'll bet 225s are better)
Mine also has tape on the roof. The best tape I've seen for that is some scotch clear duct tape I found at a CVS pharmacy that stays supple for many months unlike normal duct tape that crinkles into a foul smelling powder that leaves behind foul smelling goo after only a couple of weeks.
One thing to watch for with this clear tape is that removing it will take the some paint up with it if you are not careful.
My plans for the sunroof are to bolt it in place, remove the motor, and use polyurethane caulk to seal it which should net a stock looking closed sunroof that doesn't leak.
These sunroofs drain into the rocker panels and then out through small holes/channels very near the front and rear jack points.
It's currently my daily driver with 266,000 miles on it and the turbo is plenty tired but by not boosting until the turbo is fully warmed has allowed the turbo that I stuffed bearings into on my kitchen table (no seal replacement) to last 40,000 miles since said quickie rebuild.
If your car has a steering box instead of the rack, you might have trouble fitting turbo stuff to it.
OH.......here's another forum that has mucho information on this car but you must resist the urge to go to the diesel side.........unless you add a turbo to it.

If you see me on I95 going 130mph between west palm and boca raton, move over.......the brakes are tiny.

I think the 280zx talked the same year.
Eddie Murphy did a comedy routine on the 280zx talking and I know for sure the 1982 280zx does but not whether the earlier ones do.
More fun is to get the talking unit out of a canadian spec car since the girl talks french.
Also........some earlier cars have a more asian sounding voice than the later ones.

I would be fixing up my 88 but keep having problems with the fuel . atm I have put in a new fuel pump filter cleaned all the lines out have correct voltage to pump fpr is working but it just works when it wants to . Like today I put a new pump in fired right up just fine drove around town with no problems . Parked it came out 6 hours later back to the same problem again . Sometimes it will start with a jump battery is charged . Some times it take just clicking the ignition on wait turn off and repeat . So right now im stumped on where to go next so if any one has had this problem or might know a fix please let me know . Thank you And the fuel pump relay is new also

Wow, I'm glad to see people still here. Everyone needs to get their max up and running again!
Lately I've seen a few 2nd gens, and a Wagon once or twice while I've been driving around, I even saw a 1st gen the other day.
Hopefully I get finished Boosting my 2nd gen soon. (my Z has been stealing all my money and time... it's worse than a gf) Time to give the Max some attention, get her a new Turbo, and some new pipes welded up. I'm getting a 3rd gen tomorrow to part out, or get running again (it's got a bent crank, or so I've been told).

The 4n71b automatic finally died so I installed a 5 speed.
Sadly I had to make some adapters because the cars equipped with the 4n71b have a different floor pan stamping than the earlier cars with the 3n71b automatic or manual.

No o2 but i have an air temp sensor and an egr valve. that doesent fit canadian, federal or california smog cars and its all origonal in the engine area, some times too origonal if you know what i mean (30 year old factory installed alternator eek!)

take it to schucks or auto zone or something they can test the charging system and they would be able to tell you as well, just in the off chance its not any of that but it sould be a pretty safe bet

I was a bit surprised today as I took my trailor over to a friends house to help take some stuff to the dump. As the garage door was opened, I was pleasantly horrified to see a 1984 Datsun/Nissan Sedan sitting in the garage.
It has been stored for 10 years; not started. When stored it had new tires on it. They are all flat now. When stored, it ran. My friend doesn't seem as excited about it as I do. I going to be pushing to see what it'll take to get it up and running because it looks rather nice. I didn't inspect for rust, but none stood out. The drivers side tail light will need to be replaced, it's broken.
It looks like it is a light beige in color. The interior looks decent. Sun roof looks good. Paint looks good too. It needs a good cleaning, waxing and claying. I'd be anxious to see what it looks like all cleaned up. It has 200,000 miles on it.
Just saw this thread and thought I'd let you know there are some earlier gen's out there that need reviving!
