Wheel Alignment

My 86se,with 108k miles has been in need of a wheel alignment for a long time. The original tires lasted 35k, I put on a new set that lasted 20-25k, did not check the alignment. All four tires would wear out on the inside edge. This time had the alignment checked after getting next set of tires, wouldn't you know it, tires were still wearing out on the inside edge. Bet you the repair shop did a fast one on me. They only told me the steering rack may need to be replaced in the future. Got another set, lasted 15-20k, didn't know who can I trust, so now another set of tires. Dumb me!

My question to you all is, has anyone else had problems with their wheel alignments? What you had to do to fix it?

My car still has the OE adjustable shocks, which in my opinion were dangerous if you didn't have it set on FIRM, too much sway. I think the only alignment adjustment that could be made on this car were the front and rear toe in/out.

TIA ,AL

I am not sure about the electronic shocks but my car has the regular ones and there are adjustments for camber/caster, toe in and toe out. If you are wearing the edges of the tires that quickly then something is definately out of specification.

hello, i work at rapid and we do suspension and tires a bit and it could be a few things but you should go get your struts checked, if they are weak then the inside of the tires will wear out, just as the struts check the shock absorbers too. those can either by themself or both cause your tire problem. maybe thats why your car sways so much unless its on firm, it should be able to drive on the softest without too much swaying. i dont believe you can adjust the camber nor the caster on your car but if the place checks out the allignment then they can tell you if your camber or caster is off, if it is then even though it cant be adjusted then someting is bent or off allignment and a suspension body repair type of a place can repair it. get it checked out alot of places do that for free or for pretty cheap and they can tell you what you need. to check the shocks you can push your weight on the car and i believe the car shouldnt bounce more than 2 times, also it can be checked out by a auto shop. if there is excessive leaks around the middle of the shock like it is leaking in the center then get it replaced. also if you do one shock then do the other on on that same end. like if the front right one needs replacement do the left front one also. i would do them all at once if you have the money also cause that can help out and make sure your shocks last as long as possible. write me if you have any more questions, see ya the rat
