'81 Maxima must go.... $350

Guys.... I just posted my '81 Maxima on the for sale thread. I wanted to alert you here as well since those of you that love the early Max's might not check the FS section.

Max has been a great car, but the time has come....

The link: http://forums.maxima.org/maximas-sal...ml#post8345175

I will be dumping this in the next couple weeks, so don't wait.

Hey im interested. What is the overall mechanical condition of the car? I would need to arrange for a carrier to pick the car up as I am in Florida. Do you have the title in your possesion and is it clear? Would love to have this as a DD.

Title in hand. Did you read the for sale post? The car runs fine, but is rusty and leaks oil. Otherwise, it would be ready to DRIVE to FL. Check the FS post photos to see the rust to make sure you want to pay for shipping to FL. I do not want you to be disappointed.

Shipping to Florida would probably cost more than the car! OP, I hope you can find your old school Max a new home and save it from the scrap yard. These are getting harder and harder to find.

If it was closer I'd buy it right now. I haven't seen a 1st gen Max around here in years. I keep seeing Toyota Cressida's of the same era every once and a while, and from a distance they do look very similar.

yeah 810 and Cressi's were direct competition. same as Supras and older Z. 810 and Z can interchange parts/use the same drivetrain just like Toyota pulled on Supras and Cressida. only thing Nissan pulled better on 810 was 5spd is more common than on Cressida

so much want, but 2 project vehicles right now is enough for me

That's ****in tight, even with the rust. $350 is a steal, if I saw it locally I'd buy it in a second.

Remember, I can handle it ActionJackson! I've built Nissan L motors before..... The last one is still living in my D21 Hardboby with 355,000+ miles....., Those L motors are simple and I don't have to keep it stock for emissions , if I don't want too! It's a basic $14 Safety inspection....I could see that with either a Mikuni/Weber sidedraft setup or a Holley 390 carb, those engine were built too last forever! I realize parts would be a monster to find but alot of stuff can be found on the Zcar site!
Wow!

Update:

I got few replies from a few vintage forums, so today I listed it on my local Craigslist for $200 more ($550) and it sold in one hour for full price. I immediately got about 30 phone calls and 20 emails. I already miss that car.

Glad to hear you found it a new home. Hopefully the new owner will fix her up and take care of it.

I haven't seen a 1st gen around here in a long time. If you lived closer, I would have bought it from you.

I know I'm kinda late here but my 84 sedan just died on me, #2 cyl piston melts on my way home from Los Angeles, some scratch on the cyl. wall, haven't pulled the head off, just debating of rebuilding #2 cyl, or the rest of the engine (#4 failed me in 2006, I think somebody was inside before me and didn't do it correctly), crush it or maybe somebody interested in a straight body on steelies for free, have to be picked up from Northern CA, apologize if I intrude to the conversation, just sad to think to crush it, my e-mail is: MONTIRDOKAR@YAHOO.COM, I'll check back in a few days before deciding what to do with it.
