Looks like my rear brake caliper guide pins are stuck. I took a quick I found the outside part pin plating is OK without corrosion, but the boots are brittle and cracked, and probably let water in. On other brakes I could just remove, clean and re-lube the pins. Anyone able to do the same on your Max and have it last or did you have to end up replacing the pins? Any gotchas particular to the Max? I noticed there is a rubber bushing on the end of one of the pins like some other brake designs.

Pins are getting pricey here locally, about $22 to $33 per side. So, since money is tight I thought I would order online ahead of time if it the pins usually have to be replaced.

 

like the slide pins are seized? at work if cars have seized slide pins we just use the torch on them and they'll free up.

 

That or use PB blaster.

 

You can buy the hardware kit from NAPA also.....Pep Boys.....Courtesy....Nissanpartsasap...abcnissan.. ..I usually use high temp disc brake grease and it keep the water out as long as long as the seals are in good condition!

 

Turned out to be pretty easy, nothing was rust seized. The grease had dried out , so I just cleaned up the pins, replaced the boots and re-greased with brake grease. As a side note, I found some of the Asian cars spec "rubber grease" for the guide pins. This prevents the boots and bushing from swelling and seizing the pin. Apparently some the Asian rubber parts are not always compatible with standard silicone brake grease.
