New user with a 1985 Maxima Wagon

Hey everyone hows it goin, well ive always lurked around in the forums and recently came up with a problem. long story short I hydroplaned coming off of an exit unfortunatly. had to get towed out of a ditch but still was running strong. got home and all and a day later it just wouldnt start had alot of clicking sounds. the next day it would not start at all completely dead. attempted to get a jump from my uncle and my alternator/battery fuse got really hot and began to smoke. any suggestions or tips on this? im told so far to check the wire from my battery to my starter to see if its a bad wire or ground going on with the mud and water that i got from the incident. thank you so much for everybody taking the time to read this and you really have no clue how much ill appreciate all the feed back. thanks josh huber. if anything contact me at 7577142313 ill answer to anything at this point. thanks again.

i would check wiring first, sounds like when you went in the ditch you might have knocked a ground loose

Yeah Chrome has a good idea what it may be ,if that main ground is loose all that currant will run though the smaller ground that goes to the body and heat fast. Them Maxima wagons are pretty rare to see.
