There's a ton of links to companies that provide performance parts and other customization, pictures of a bunch of 2nd gen Maximas (custom and stock), and a member who's planning on turboing his '88 for 300-400hp.

Racing? Didn't ya know that you bought a 4 door family sedan?
Other than adding a turbo or a nos kit, there is not much you can do about serious hp. However, you can make some custom modification to your throttle body, put in a Cold Air Intake, advance your timing slightly, but remember that while performance may increase, reliability is going down. If yours is a 5spd, you're definitely on the right track.
You need to think like a racer, where you would sacrifice luxury and convenience for performance, which means:
1) Lose the spare tire!
2) Better flowing exhaust with no cat**highly illegal mod but effective
3) Yank out that A/C
4) Sound system? Who needs a sound system?
5) Other seats
6) Lighter racing wheels than stock (kinda hard to find if you have the stock 15")
But after all these things, you might as well change your emblem to Nissan Sentra V6, cause that's what you're gonna have in terms of luxury and convenience.
