Well thats very hard. Nobody I know has been able to reset it. Some or most of them dont work anymore except for locking the doors. Nissan Doesnt even do them anymore. The lady I got my car from said she replaced them once.$800 each side. Good luck if you can.

In the trunk, there's a security box. On that box, there's a 7-digit number, that's the master code for the system. Press start/clear, punch that number in, then it'll beep a few times. After it beeps, punch whatever code you want in, between 4-7 digits. Then your done.

I've had that problem too, I looked in the trunk like charles said, but i didn't find a seven digit number - i found a 10 digit number with 1 letter, so i tried putting in the 1st 7 digits only, but it won't let me... only 4. I don't have $1600 to spend on new ones, and don't know of any junkyards in the waco area that would have what I'm looking for. Charles, if you could me where in the trunk the box you refered to is located, or just if you have any other information, I would appreciate it

It's a gold-colored box that sits underneath and in between both speakers inside the trunk. I don't know where the security box is located in the wagon as I don't have a wagon, so if you've got the wagon you'll have to consult someone else.

As far as setting the code, on the gold-colored security box there's a white sticker. In addition to some Nissan information and other writing, it has three numbers on it, a P#, L#, and an F#. The one that you want is the F#. It's the last number on the box. It should be a letter followed by a 7 digit number.

It would look like this:

F#: S1234567

Just hit the start/clear button on the driver's side security panel, type in that seven digit number and it'll beep a few quick beeps. After that, just type in whatever code you want, between 4 and 7 digits.

That information is accurate as far as the '88 GXE sedan is concerned. I don't know if there are any differences between trim levels, between the wagon and sedan, or between different model years, but I would imagine it would be fairly similar.
