twin turbo a 2nd gen
twin turbo a 2nd gen
can you twin turbo a 88 max? will a 300 twin set up work? i also heard you have to lower the compression in a turbo car. is that true? if anwsering please dont give my the money bs cuz i dont care. sucking plain air sucks. oh will my dry nos work with turbo or will i have to get a wet set up?
You have the advantage since you got a 2nd gen. Just find a 85-89 300zx turbo in a junkyard or for a parts car. Then swap everything over like the exhaust manifolds, turbo, downpipe, ECU (you will have to add 1 wire from the DET sensor to the plug that connects to the ECU). You don't have to lower compression at all, just swap everything over. The following threads have all the info you need.

All you really need besides the turbo hardware is the Z31 turbo ECU and injectors, well upgrade the fuel pump too (walbro 255 is very good and cheap). The wiring is the same for the NA's but the turbo's have the DET sensor on the pin that is empty on the NA's and maximas. So you'd just need to add a wire to the harness connector and run it through the firewall to the DET sensor on the rear cylinder head. After you swap over the turbo injectors and install the DET sensor the car should start and run fine. But replace the fuel pump too, nothing like having it run lean and killing the engine. The exhaust can be done in 1 day with air tools. But first I'd do the ECU + wiring, then the exhaust swap. Estimated cost of a turbo 2nd gen $500-1200 depending on who does the labor. Get an EGT/boost gauge since we have more compression (autometer is pretty good).

Ive already studied the placement of the turbo on my car and what it looks like on the 300zxt. And the materials needed to make it happen. The best part just like nevin said. Its just about bolt on and it doesnt look hard if you have every part right there. You could do it in less than a day or maybe a day for tuning the engine just right so it doesnt knock. Good luck!!

Ok you just made everything seem alot more easier than I thought. If I can just get my car running smoothe again. Before I order the 87.99 spark plug wires from Nissan. Ill Email you of what I would like to get from you Ari.

I after a tune up my car started studdering and hesitation started. Ive been through some diagnostics to find out what the problem is. I have a guestimate that it could be the spark plug wires. Our cars are very sensitive to change. Make sure you have the right parts or Nissan parts. But I Have a theory that the new Spark Plug wires could be causing Interference with the Crank Angle sensor like electrical pulses are interfering with it causing it to have the car to studder. The Crank Angle Sensor helps Maintain idle speed as well as timing and some other stuff that helps the car run right. If there is Interference it could cause problems. So thats why Im detecting the Spark Plug wires as a culprit. Ari knows what Im talking about.

Hey Anything is Possible as long as you have the money for it if you got $$$$$$$ to twin turbo your max then go for it. Its just wit a cramped space theres going to have to be tons of modifications. If you got it, go for it, Im not haten. Just trying to see the reality point of it. So if youve got $$$$$$ to spend do it then.
max88q....youve been tryin to turbo your max or twin turbo???? i got my first one in above the manifold. it dont work yet. but when/if it works will there be too much heat? if twinnin it where in tha he** does the second one go??? and dont listen to these know it alls, i talked to a guy who drags imports and builds show imports in Atlanta and he said it can be done. keep tryin. iam tryin to get pics of my attempt at installing mine up

Nah...
Ok, guys, I'd like to shift gears on ya. So far the discussion has been on gen2s and turbocharging, which I'm in no way opposed to. I know I can easily turbo my L28, however, I would rather do forced clean air. I have never bought a blower b4, I have looked into what's out there and when I realized I don't (and won't) have a Mustang or Camaro... Anyhow, what's the most sensible and cost effective route to pursue should one decide to go with a blower rather than a turbo?
