crappy gas mileage on my 90 auto max

Yo guys I get horrible gas mileage. I get only 240 miles per full tank on 93 octane. With how how gas prices are now $1.55 I am losing serious money filling 15 gallons I used to use lower octane but the noise I would get on hard accelaration was to loud. I replaced everything you can thing of from changed oil, filter, new tranny fluid, new distributor cap and rotor, new ngk spark plugs and new wires, new gas tank cap. I also put a accord cold air intake pipe with cone filter on my car. What else should I consider doing. I think people say the injectors could be bad but I do not smell any gas under the hood but who knows they still can be leaking. Help

First of all, you should definately not need 93 octane. I run 89 no problem with timing advanced 3 degrees. Check timing and EGR operation..both could cause detonation (knock ping whatever you call it). Can effect gas milage too. If injectors were leaking that bad to cause noticibly poor milage, your cat would crap out real quick..look into that. An emissions test will show bad cat and rich running conditions (high unburned hydrocarbons) My guess is your timing is way advanced..snappy acceleration, but the knock and poor milage can be the result from too aggressively advanced timing. Check fuel pressure just for kicks too. If you don't have a gauge, try this..disconnect the vac line to the fuel pressure regulator and plug the open vac. This will give the engine max pressure all the time. If your milage doesn't get worse (which it should!) then the FPR is the likely culprit. Good luck.

Yea i get poor gas mileage also running like 92 and 93 octane. I have heard that sometimes replacing the O2 oxygen sensor will really help. Do a search it will help you out?

My emissions system is working great. I never failed inspection and I had a high flow cat just put on the car. I also put a new ngk o2 sensor. I really try to maintain my car. Normal good mileage per tank I heard was on average 310-350 miles per tank. I will look into the timing. I had the timing belt changed but I am not sure if the timing is too advanced or retard. What is the stock degree of the timing and how many degress safely should I get it advanced and what are the benefits beside power which I know is the biggest benefit.

Speaking of gas, has anyone has their gas guage not go all the way to F when the car is totally topped off? I filled my max up the other week and the guage only went up about 7/8 of the way. Also my trip odometer is totally messed up, so I guess I'll have to write down what the odo was at every time I fill it up.

I noticed that on my old 93GXE, the only way I could get the hand to go past full was to keep pumping after it clicked. I pumped about an extra gallon it.

Poor Gas milage

Have you guys considered your driving style. When i drive my max hard , i get poor fuel economy. On the other hand, when i drive like a normal person, it way, way better.

Sometimes we need the obvious pointed out to us. Shifting at 3500 every day is not great for fuel economy. Shift at 2500 much better.

While I had 3 bad fuel injectors, I was getting 240-260 highway.
Since replacing all 6 injectors(after-market $430) I'm back to normal....330-350 highway. 90seAuto, 178k.
