Power Steering Pressure Hose

How did any of yall that have done this replacement get the bottom bolt out...i've had alot of trouble even getting a tool in there...any techniques i could use to make this easier (without paying a mechanic) also what size is a 15/16 in metric. my dad only has standard tools. thanks for any help.

I've already searched but no one seemed to say anything about the bottom bolt being a problem.

15/16 * 25.4 = 23.8mm so see if a 23mm fits, if not it will be 24mm

Re: Power Steering Pressure Hose

Just checked on a spare pump in the garage and the size is 24mm. Your best bet is to remove the entire pump which requires a 1/4" drive to be able to access the cramped area on the backside of the pump. There is only one bolt on the back side of the pump. The other three bolts are on the front side behind the pulley.

If you talking about the one that comes down it is very hard to do if you don't remove the pump but it is doable. I had to learn the hard way. You have to have two wrenches. They botha have to have a closed end. One being the 24mm and the other being one that you can use for leverage. Use the closed end on the bolt and take the other end and place it on the open end of the 24. This should take it off but youe best bet is to take off the pump. either way it is messy and a bit time consuming.

Alright finally got finished with it....actually i just paid a friend 25 to do it but what the heck.... he couldnt get to the bolt that goes through the bottom piece of the pressure hose. the rear motor mount got in the way of any type of socket. there was a bolt goin straight up vertically about 3 inches from the other bolt. he took it off and took the whole small assembly out. the only problem he had was once he took the bolt that goes in vertically, a spring loaded type of bolt fell out and it was kinda hard to get back in, but after about 1.5 - 2 hours he got it all in there. not bad paying $25 for 1.5 - 2 hours of hard work.

Thanks for your help!!!

Getting to that lower hose bolt is just plain a biatch, nothing else to say....did mine this weekend. I sure am tired of jobs taking 3 times longer than they should, or having to take half the car apart just to get to one bolt...what's up with that???? Also, power steering fluid is some of the nastiest stuff ever.. OK, done whining..(for now)

Sorry man... I didn't even see this thread. I know it's kinda late now... but I'll just throw this in anyway

I did mine a week ago. The top bolt took me a good 60minutes to take off. The bolt must have started to seize. I used a 24mm open-box wrench... about 1 foot long.
The bottom one was a toughie, but I got it off within 30 minutes of cussing and *****-ing. Didn't have to remove the pump... just had to show the car who's boss is all.

Good job though!!!!

Bought my hose from NAPA auto parts for 40 bucks. NISSAN OEM costs about $180!!!!!!!!!!

No problem- I think it's just meant to be a pain in the a$$. I had no problem with the top one- used a long breaker bar, and had my son hold the hose so it didn't move. But, the bottom one made me want to take a hostage...nothing like being under the car, covered in power steering fluid, and getting the bolt to turn about 1/8 th of a thread each time- and that's the good part..

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up. The problem is one of clearance. I was about a 1/4" short of being able to get my breaker bar and socket on the lower bolt without hitting the motor mount. If I could have had either a shorter 1/2" drive 24 mm socket, or the same socket in a 3/8" drive, (smaller ratchet)I probably would have been alright. As it was, I had to stop in the middle and go get a 24mm combo wrench, since my biggest one was 22mm...oh well, you can never have too many tools
