restoring rims

I have stock rims and the finish is really coming off of them, is there any way I can restore them or change them in a way they will look good?

That sounds like a good idea, what color did you paint them and what kind of paint did you use?

Easy powdercoat them. Its more durable than paint and its not that expensive.Plus the colors you can get are wild.

ive seen paint at auto stores that said they were specifically for wheels. i thought it was odd, but i would imagine you would need a much more durable paint so... anyways it was at autozone that i saw it. i would just go with silver

Not that expensive?? Most places in my area charge $175 per wheel to powdercoat.

Does no one read the posts in the third gen forum?Ive been talking about this for weeks.I can do 15" rims any basic color for $100 per wheel if you prep them (sandblast or chemical strip the old finish off) or $130 if I have to do the prep.Right now though 15" is as big as I can go.Also Im doing small parts like valve covers, intakes, etc.Im in IL. just south of Chicago.Email me if your interested at:

$130 per wheel is still ridiculous. I'd rather spend that money for brand new 15" Rota light-weight wheels that actually look decent.

Hmm, I've been thinking about the colour code for the silver paint on our wheels. Anyone know what colour or what the code is?

I'll probably need this someday for sure (peelin' going on).

Re: restoring rims

I've got the same problem. My rims are pitted with virtually all the clear coat gone.

Thinking about wet sanding and clearcoating.

Anyone done this with any success??....Tips???

Bill

i dont mean to asnwer for him, but i think he meant that the stock wheels are ugly, not that the work that you would do is going to make them look bad. thats how i took it atleast. if so i agree the stock se wheels are very ugly and the gxe wheels arent all that much better.

The only problem w/ powdercoating is that I don't like the stock se rims enough to put that much money into them. I might as well get new rims, unfortunatly I don't have enough money for either.
