!Help! Guage problem (electrical short)

hello everyone,

I was going through the jack in the box drive through when all the sudden my dash lights went out, so I quickly tried adjusting the dimmer switch, but no success. my friend ( a fellow maxima owner ) said "oh oh hit the brakes" and when I did tey lit back up. apparantly he had the same problem in his 92 se. He says it's a short, and he took it a auto shop to get it fixed. BUT sence it's a common maxima problem, I was wondering if anyone knew the soulution.

*IN A NUTSHELL*

GAUGE LIGHTS WILL NOT LIGHT UNLESS I TAP THE BRAKES

thank you
woody
