Yep - needs some cleaning.

There's more if anyone wants to see. You know, in case you haven't seen a BONE STOCK '93 SE before.

I have no idea why the mirrors are blue...

But if someone painted them, they did a damn good job. It looks stock to me - I saw a blue GXE today (very very nice looking car too) and our mirrors looked identical.

I dunno.

Nice...

I like the dark blue color, almost as nice as super black I need to take more pics of my car, so far i only have two scanned. I threw them up REALLY quickly at:

http://hometown.aol.com/rosenken/maxima.html

Are those cloth interior door panel inserts? I also have black leather and mine came with imitation leather inserts, they look nice. I see you also have the standard front bumper cover license plate holes. someone took care of your leather, my wheel, shift **** and ebrake are all kinda ratty. I took the leather off the shift **** and now it's bare plastic. I recovered the steering wheel with a leather rim kit, it looks nice! It's the kind you actually have to stitch on, that was a pain, but it was well worth it.

Leather door inserts?

No mine is like a terry-cloth type material. Seems like my car is some sort of bastard. Oh well - it's a shiny bastard anyway...

AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!

I MISS MY SE! RIP my love. *sniff sniff* Nice color! I love dark blue! That's one sweet car man! I must say though, I think that I like my dark grey better - mostly b/c it looks good dirty and clean. MY black SE was the biggest pain in the **** to keep clean. I'd clean that thing and it would be dirty 2 days later. Now, my grey max, on the other hand, hasn't been washed in about 2 months and it still looks pretty clean! I like that.

Oh geez...

Of course it's an SE - I was just joking. That VE was the first give-away... I specifically wanted a blue or black '92-'94 SE - and I got it!!

I love the color - it looks great in the day, but almost glows in the dark when light catches it. I love blue! The VE is very nice - very smooth. Ticks like a *****... But I also have an n/a '89 300ZX so I have a VG30E to play with too...

I paid around ~$7500 for the car. Seems like an okay deal - everything is new, brakes, tires, changer/deck, etc. I really really like the car. The interior is in great shape too, and that's important to me.

Thanks for he compliments! I appreciate it.

The Mirrors

The mirrors on a 3rd gen are interchangable. So, if what was said is true, that SE's only had black mirrors (mine does), and GXE's have painted, then they could had been switched. I know I've switched mine and put a newer model's on mine, looks better!

I dunno...

Cept that my car has blue mirrors and it's definitely an SE!! But - I have seen Nissan do un-standard things before. On Z31 300ZX's, n/a models have bare metal window trim and turbos have black or, on later cars, charcoal window trim - PERIOD. BUT - it appears there were a few '89 N/A models that left the factory with charcoal painted trim. I own one, and have seen about 4 others. It's clearly a factory job too. I have seen other oddities like that as well. Pretty weird.

That is a bad *** car! How many miles on it? I like it. It's the same as mine for the most part. I have a super black '93 SE 5spd. I also have the terry cloth-like inserts in my door panels and mine has tan leather in it. My leather in the fron is in pathetic shape though. My back seat is ok though for the most part. I think mostly due to the fact that I don't have tinted windows. I absolutely love the VE engine. It does tick like a S.O.B., though. It's ok though, once you rev that engine...

Yea, what's with that VE tick? Once it gets started... tick tick tick tick. While its running... tick tick tick... After you turn it off... tick tick tick. What is that damn ticking noise? How can I stop it?? Argh!

Ticking

The ticking is caused by worn out VTC assemblies (valve timing control). They basically use oil pressure to rotate the intake camshafts slightly to increase power at certain times. From what I'm told, the little springs get worn out in the VTC and allow the camshafts to rotate freely, especially at idle. This is the ticking noise. You may also notice weird surges in power while accelerating (due to the camshafts advancing on thei own).

The cheap fix is to ground the VTC solenoid yellow/green wire. This disables the VTC's completely, getting rid of the ticking, but robbing you of a few HP somewhere (we havent quite figured hat out yet!). However, the weird surging goes away also.

Just do a search on VTC in the forum, you'll find lots of info.
