Does anybody know where all the grounding points are for the VE engine? Anybody has a FSM? Thanks!

 

I've got the '93 FSM, but I have no idea where (or what for that matter) the grounding points are. If you can tell me where to look, I'll try to find it for you though.

 

i think somebody on the general maxima forum said it's in the EL section.

 

What you should do is follow the wire leaving the neg on the batt. You will see that the wire goes straight down and bolts to the fender, that same wire then continues and travels over to a point on the engine block. There is another ground wire that I'm not sure where it comes from (probably from the block) and it ends at a point directly under the stock air box (so it would be very convenient to remove the air box to get to it). On the opposite fender (passenger side) there is a ground wire for the lighting system, this grounding bolt points stright up and is next to the filler neck for the wind sheild washer fluid.

You should also clean the possitive and neg connectors that are on the alternator. You should be carful when removing the pos connection on the alternator so that it does not touch another metal surface or the body of the alt itself (ideally you would disconnect the neg on the batt when doing this).

I have already done all the connections in my car long ago, but this is something that should be done every couple years.

 

I was looking at my 93 SE and found the 2 points leading from the neg battery terminal. 1 is on the fender, the other is on the block. I was also thinking of the Alternator. I can't think of any other place and the nissan parts manual doesn't help.

well, i don't have a fsm for my 93 max...i was gonna get one, but someone outbid me on ebay. haha
still, it's fun to play hide and seek with those grounding points!

Wow nice pics. When I was putting my engine back in, I apparetly forgot to connect one of the wiring harness grounds. It grounds to one of the valve cover bolts. I didn't notice a difference in performance but when I touched it to a ground, it sparked. So needless to say, I reconnected it. I think the ignition system signal wires to the coils need a good ground.

 

So your hood struts are bad also hunh. sucks doesnt it. well i put my broom back where it belongs since my 3rd isnt living anymore. I used to prop the hood up with an old broom.

isn't a broom kinda long?
I just noticed...when the temp's warm or the engine's warm, the struts suck. but when it's cold like in the morn, the struts are great (for 5 min...then it falls on my head!) Kragen sells the struts for about $30 each! ouch!
