FSTB problems..

93 SE. The air conditioner line is in the way on the left side. Two tries now and no luck. Courtesy Nissan and Stealth Max. The mount is the one that has the curved brace point for the bar itself. Similar to this one. http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchan...Code=A32-STB-R
It should be this one right? http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchan...detail_big.jpg

Search my friend. I recall a post on this a few weeks back. I think Courtesy is sending out the wrong FSTB's or something.

Dude - just put your palm on the hose and push a little - don't worry the hose will rotate a little - it won't bend. I had to do this, and no problems at all.

Yes, it should be like the 2nd picture, which is for 5th Gens or 1999-2002 according to Courtesy. That is the style I have. Some later braces changed to a style with a short curved mount similar to the old OLD (ie, extinct) brace that fit VE cars (this should fit too I think). It looks just like the first link you posted.

Find Lordrandall's homepage and go to his FSTB section. If your brace looks just like the top one, we both have one sitting in the basement and it only fits 4th Gens. There are also not as good pictures of this on the Courtesy site. Also look for the 2 bends in the bar, which are needed to clear the manifold.

Last I heard Stealth Max sold ones that fit didn't he? If the Courtesy one is the wrong one, shouldn't you get them to exchange it?

Yea, I sent the CN one back. The bar that Stealth Max sent me is bent more than the CN one but the brackets are the same.

If it's all the same, I'd rather not go bending things that weren't meant to do so. My luck would see freon spewing out of it seconds after I did.

Rungi,

I got my FSTB from Stealth Max about two months back and I thought the same thing you did; "no way I'm bending my a/c line to make this thing fit." But you don't have to bend the a/c line at all. If you look near the passenger side strut tower there is a small bracket holding the ac line tight (very tight). You can either bend that bracket slightly or unhook it all together. Personally I wasn't too sure about unhooking the bracket all together, so I bent the bracket slightly. That gave me about a half inch of play with the a/c line and that's all the clearance I needed for the FSTB to fit.

I've been driving it since then with no problems. Make the leap.

That sucks people are having trouble with this now.

Have you tried eBay? Some 5th Gen FSTBs I've seen on there have the right brackets like this one: http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...tem=1848710129
At least the picture is right. Might be worth a shot...

The one you want is a 2k FSTB from Courtesy Nissan. No problems with clearance whatsoever.

I understand you 100% - I was a little uneasy about moving ac hose myself, but like i said it doesn't BEND it, it just turns the hose. No problems at all.

It's not a new problem, it's been around forever, I had to move my AC line too... A whole 1/4", it's not a big deal at all, you don't do anything more then press down slightly as you put the nuts on.

my courtesy fstb does not fit. Well, it fits, but there's rubbing issues. I bought the exact same one as lordrandall (he bought 3, so I got one from him). Lemme go take pics to show what rubs and what the fix was.

so what my dad did for me was, stick the end into a 3foot long plumbing pipe, wedge it the the rear of his utility truck (if you must know, we wedged it between 2 frame pieces) and he bent the fstb. We bent at the 2 bends approx 5-10 degrees each, which raised the fstb about 1/2 inch, and gave enuf clearance for everything. The only thing that still rubs is the throttle cable, which hasn't caused any issues.

That is weird that yours rubbed Jae. I put the same model bar as the one I gave you on my car, and had no troubles..... got me.

I gave the round one like you have to my father in-law for his 2001, and I kept the flat one.

Nope, it only goes on one way. And the bar itself is straight laterally.

Thats the same bar i have. I just took mine off because I noticed the ignition wires began to melt up against the inake manifold. Also, It felt like it was hitting it too. I would feel and hear a clunk once in a while until I took it off the other day. I will order a newer one that fits to avoid the worries.

so I guess the rounds ones don't work but the flat ones do? DaBoxSE, when you order your new one, ask if they have 2 available and make sure they give u the flat one (looks better too!)

I dont have one, but I'm pretty sure the ones that are made for 89-94 fit on the VG engines.

use some pieces of plastic (ziploc bag-ish type plastic is fine) and wrap/cover every electrical/wire harness you see. Battery and MAF sensor especially...then use a power washer and spray it down. Also spray some engine degreaser on the valve cover to break up that scum. I did it with my engine and ripped off all my plasic coverings, started it up and nothing wrong

Talk to Stealth Max, I had no problem installing my FSTB when I got it... Plus, $45 shipped, and I got it the day after the money cleared.
And no, it doesn't block anything, but it does make it a little trickier to get the oil filter out without spilling it... Which I was never able to do in the first place, so it's a moot point
