rear strut is knockin
if it's been posted before, please just let me know...only reason i haven't searched is b/cause i'm on a 28k modemn and its takin 4ever for pages to appear......my problem is this, my rear passenger sturt is knockin really bad when i go over large bumps....i have tokico struts which are about 3-4 months old....tha knockin just recently started happening. I've taken off tha whole strut assembly and made sure everything was tightened to specifications , but I'm still getting the knockin over bumps.....Does anyone know what tha problem could be....If the oil that the catridge sits in is kind of low, would that make tha sturt knock or could it be sumthin else????

no, i can't make the noise when pushing down on the car...it can't be that that tha spring is not seated properly because i took the whole thing apart (except removing that tight azz nut that seals the cartridge in the assembly) and put it back together again and tightened it to specificatioins. thats why i was wondering if anyone knew if this happens when the oil that the cartridge sits in is low or if there's none at all. thats all i can think of, unless its blown like i read someone said eariler. but if its blown, would it knock??

thanks for tha thread babbs...it helped somewhat, but i don't think thats my problem....my nuts up top are tightened and tha nut on the strut itself is tightened...the spring is seated properly...i mean everything that was in the thread i have checked and done......i'm goin to get it looked at (hopefully free of charge) and see what a mechanic has to say!!! i'll update you guys who are havin tha same problem!!

Did you properly align the top spring mount when you bolted it to the strut housing? If you didn't align it, the spring will look a bit warped sitting in the strut. This will cause a knocking noise. IF you don't know what I'm talking about, chances are you didn't align it correctly.

I have the Tokico/Eiback set up on my 92 SE and the same exact thing is happening with min, and I've only had the set up for about 2 weeks. Rear passenger strut is knocking. I had the whole job done professionally too. I don't know what is causing it.

I installed tokicos a couple weeks ago and am getting knocking on big bumps also. Thinking back on install. I tightened and torqued the top center nut on the rear strut after installing them on car. Should I have tighten them when they were off the car and the spring compressor was installed. I'm wondering if the force from the springs influenced the torque on the bolts. Probably not since spring force is along longitudinal axis and torque is around the lateral axis. Anyone know if this could be my problem.

problem solved
well, i am just gettin back from the dreaded nissan dealership.....after having my wallet violated for $40 and 10 mins of my time (the technician made $4 a min off of me), the conclcusion to my knockin strut was the strut insert had to be tighten....i have yet to figure out what was actually tighten (did put the suspension on myelf)!! didnt ask questions and just got my azz out of there....anyhow, no more knocking....so for those of you that are experiencing this problem, you might want to get that checked out and it could be as simple as that....personally i fell as though i betrayed myself by goin to the dealer..lol, but even when i pulled off the assempbly myself and inspected it, i couldn't find the problem............at least they didn't try to run game on me!!!!
