To Sony or not to Sony ????????????
I have a 1993 Nissan Maxima SE with the bose system and I want to replace the entire system but it seems like everytime I use the word Sony headunit people act like Im cursing. I was thinking of getting the Sony Cdx-m610 headunit I am going with a rockford component set and two rockford 3way 6x9s and I am going to amp the components and 6x9s with the Rockford 500x amp. I am really a fan of Pioneer or Sony headunits which should I go with and if not the Sony somebody please tell me why not.

Sony stuff seems to be a mixed bag... some of my friends with higher end stuff seem to be having no problems and other cheap stuff seems to break.
Personally the one sony deck I'm currently using (some ~$200 model from a year or two ago) is terrible. The cd loading mechanism is shot so it won't pull the disc in on its own so you have to push it in with another disc while talking dirty to it, to get it out you have to put a cd halfway in while hitting eject so it creates enough friction that the disc will come out about a half inch so you can pull it out. Also the rotary **** sometimes turns the volume up when you turn it left and vice versa. Did I mention this deck was taken back about 3 times and kept having these problems.
On the other hand the Sony ES CDX-C910 that I currently have up in my room waiting to be installed has none of those problems. The sound quality is top notch, it loads discs with no problems, all *****/etc. work perfectly, the ESP can play cds that nothing else can. Keep in mind this was their top of the line deck aside from the XES system before the C90 came out.
Just keep in mind you get what you pay for, and AFAIK Sony doesn't make an ES line anymore, so you're probably better off looking elsewhere if you want a high end deck, if you just want a CD player that works avoid the cheapest Sony stuff out there and you should be alright.

One simple word describes your one true clear choice, and accept no substitues!!!!
ECLIPSE
I have had Pioneer, Sony, Alpine, Kenwood, Aiwa, and JVC headunits, and they all skip like a giddy school girl all the time especially on any type of bumpy road at all! so go with ECLIPSE made by Fujitsu Ten or the only other choice is Panasonic's new head units which are rather pricey but also worth it.
I have had my Eclipse unit for year and it has only skipped once, and I mean exactly that... ONCE! all the other manufacturers suck and will not play scratched CDs. Go to your local stereo shop that sells Eclipse and other manufacturers and take the most scratched up POS CD there and try to play it in a SONy, JVC, Pioneer, etc. and I guarantee you it will nt play right, but will in the Eclipse.

I had a 2pac greatest hits number 1 that was so scratched up it would not play in anything then played it in the Eclipse 5962 that I have in my car fine, because Eclipse sets their CD players to a non standard unlike what most other companies do and always have. Almost everyone else sets them to play a standard out of the wrap perfect CD and everyone know they have at least one really fugged up CD like I speak of!

Re: To Sony or not to Sony ????????????
IMO Sonys are crap end quote. They break down after a few monts or so and thats if they work in the first place.Ive installed a million of these steaming piles only to replace them with something else in two months.Ive heard nothing but noise about them.Pioneer is ok as far as I know. They are reliable but dont expect incredible sound quality.Yes eclipse are good and they will play a slice of pizza if you can fit it into the slot but they are expensive.Dont let anyone foll you there.I personnally like Kenwood or JVC the prices arew reaconable and the sound quality isnt crap and most of all you wont be cursing yourself as your removing it in a month like the sony.

Well you could not order somethin online and get it from best buy...i had the jvc kameleon deck in my last car. and for 30 bucks at best buy you can buy a 3 year warranty where if anything at all goes wrong with the cd player they will give you a new one. But the selection of cd players at best buy is kinda limited.

I'm not much into stereos. Meaning I love to have something of quality to listen to, but i'm not a fanatic that would spend obscene amounts of money on a stereo system. I have a sony HU and xplod speakers in the back and cerwin vega's up front. They get the job down.
There is nothing wrong with sony. But if you want a finely tuned system, I would say there are other companies that produce stuff that look better and sound better. When it comes to audio equiptment, it's not always 'you get what you pay for'.
Most of you guys dont' even have good speakers and you complain it's the HU's fault for the low quality sound.

the only sony deck you should get is their top of the line one with the awesome display, otherwise get pioneer if that's your only other choice, personally i'd go with alpine just cause i like them. i dunno if you're getttin subs or speakers but whatever you do don't get sony!!!! there subs blow a$$ and there speakers are almost as bad

I work at best buy and have been around speakers for ALONG TIME and i have found what i think is the best setup for my car. Pioneer all the way for the head unit they make the best next to eclipse (but not worth the money!!!) go with the DEH-P6400 the best out there for 250. and with organic screen. as for speakers sony all the way there 3 ways kick ***. dont go to wall mart and buy the cheap 2 way sony! and for subs the new sonys are not that good. if and i mean if you can find some 1st gen. sony xplods then go with those. if can not find any of those then go with jl's. aight into amps. this is where you are going to get your quality. if you are not scared to pay some money go with kicker. if not then go with sony or pioneer gm-x962 model if pioneer. i hope i have been some help and you can kick some *** with your system in the future. jonathan
