Rough acceleration in 1st gear. Hopes its not the Tranny!

I have a 91 GXE with about 125,000 mi, and recently driving it seems rougher than before. The main problem is acceleration from a stop. At around 1000 to 1500 RPM, i hear and feel like a grrrr noise from what seems to be coming from under the drivers side.. It isn't the exhaust because when i gas it in park, there isn't a noise. Anytime after 1st gear and 1000 to 1500 RPM is fine. I hope its not my tranny. Has anyone ever got this? Anyway to test if its the tranny?

Automatic or 5-speed, sorry I didn't bother to read your profiel?

Automatic (automajic).... It would either be a chipped tooth or teeth on your first gear in your tranny or hopefully just the Flex Plate a simple repair and not horribly expensive unless it is a Tranny gear

5-speed... again could be the 1st gear being chippeda nd not engaging properly, or most likely a weak clutch that isn't grabbing enough when it is engaging in 1st, I drove a 5 speed VW Jetta recently that had this problem.

Sorry forgot to mention, its an auto. How much do you think repairs would run? parts / labor?

best bet is to go to your local trusty Tranny shop and have a free inspection done!

If it is a gear possibly several hundreds of dollars!

Jon No doubt, I wouldn't trade my VE ticking and all for a VG any day of the week!
