New Muffler is TOO Loud

First of all, yes, I have used the search tool. I have read threads here for hours. Second, yes, this is my first post. Third, I'm going to ask anyway, thanks.

Just installed from Warpspeed on my 94 SE: Y pipe, B pipe, Hi Flow Cat, Turbo Muffler.

Outcome: Easy install, quality products, no fuss, no muss.

Problem: Maybe I'm getting old, but this thing is way too loud for my taste. I know, what do you expect from a performance straight through muffler? The question is, now what. The options I am considering are below, and I value anyone's feedback.

1. Deal with it.
2. Magnaflow from Warpspeed, but will it be any less loud?
3. Gen 5 muffler, but will I lose any/all performance gains achieved through the other components?
4. ???

Thanks,

Scott

Just stick with the stocker muffler or ge tthe 5th gen. These mufflers are a really good design and you might only gain 1hp by getting a high-flow muffler, but you'll also gain all the noise. The big HP is in the y-pipe which is what you already did. You can find a 5th gen muffler for cheap if you look hard enough

I agree w/ the idea to use a long resonator. I had the same problem w/ another type of vehicle and this worked reasonably well.

I changed mine to dual exhaust with dual tipped mufflers, still 2.5" all the way, and for some reason it was quieter than with the one pipe and the Stillen muffler. It still has that great sound WOT, but a little less of the drone at idle and on the highway. Still loud, though, just a lot more tolerable.

You can also try exhaust wrap, I have heard that it helps with the noise inside the car. Probably doesn't do much for outside, but may make it more comfortable for you as the driver and your passengers...

I think that the 5th gen wrap thing around the two tips is gay. But, if you put tips that look just like the 2002 Maxima, I think it looks sweet. Two nice looking chrome tips.

Variable-Capacity Muffler
Delivers wide-open power-boosting exhaust flow without blowing Maxima's quiet, stealthy cover. A special valve stays closed when revs are low (e.g., when you're sitting at a stop light), and opens when engine speeds rise to allow for maximum flow and full-tilt horsepower.

search on google. there are tons of reviews for it. there was one where they tested it on an infinty and it gained 5hp just from this muffler.

If you need a replacement, it's a cheap and good alternative. Plus, it has a valve/flap thingy that opens up when at wide open throttle. It might give you a 1 HP increase. But, I wouldn't imagine it would be much.

I spoke to a Flowmaster Rep once about that muffler..looked like what I wanted. Mellow tone, good flow. He told me that the 60 is designed more for smaller displacement adn would overly restrict a 3.0.

Unfortunately there aren't too many options. The 50 series will fit but is quite loud, I'm sure you've heard alot of stangs with these on 'em. Two chamber loud. The 70 series would be ideal..real good flow with low noise, but it is large and you will probably have trouble with fitment. I had a discusssion with Dallas from Warpspeed about this one. He said he's tried it but they are just too big. You could try a glasspack or resonator after the muffler in addition to a 50 series, but there is only on e way to find out how that sounds..do it. I would go for the 5th gen muffler with a larger b-pipe. The larger pipe would give it a throatier sound while not being too loud. This is the route I will be going.

the inlet to the 5th gen mufflers are only 2". i didn't think it was worth it to go with a larger b-pipe. my car is dead silent under 3.5k, growls over 3.5k, and roars over 5k. love it.

IMO just get the y-pipe... b-pipe and muffler will only give you 1-2 hp but will run you well over $250. the y-pipe will be ~$220 and you'll get around 12hp. i really dunno what the entire combo will give you but i didn't feel a difference.
