OK, so I decided I hate my yellow headlights after putting in nice clear corners with Polarg bulbs...they look awesome. So I bought a pair of PIAA Xtreme White Plus headlight bulbs (9004). But now, I've been reading all these horror stories of people's headlight harnesses melting multiple times, their aftermarket higher wattage bulbs not being very bright with the stock harness, etc. so I haven't installed my new bulbs yet...I'm scared!!! I don't wanna have to mess with fixing/replacing a harness.

What are the odds that my harness will melt with these specific bulbs? I don't think they are as high wattage as the APCs I hear about that most problems with, but they are definitely higher than stock.

Opinions? Best solution? Anyone wanna buy them off me, unopened box?

 

what is the wattage with these? If you afraid that they will melt the harness, you can always make your own upgraded one.

 

That's actually something I'm confused about...the box says:
HB1 12V 65w/45w =>> 120w/95w

So they're 12V of course, but are they 65w normal 120w brights, or what? Why the 2 sets of wattage measurements that are so way off?

 

kinda a dumb question and i know i should search for the answer but... how could you make your own?

i had nokya arctic whites and they melted my harness, so i bought an apc rewire kit, and it melted that too. now i am just running stock harnesses with some sylvania bulbs. i miss my old lights and want to upgrade again, but i don't feel like dealing with the hassle of melted wiring harnesses. what combination bulbs/harnesses should i use?

 

Craig has a great explantion of making your own harness on his site (search for that I can't recall the link). It looks like it would work well, but also looks way too time consuming for me to do on my own. I was hoping there was a better alternative, or maybe I can ask Craig to make me one and I'll pay him...lol

The PIAA bulbs have stock wattage. So no need to fear. They are whiter than stock bulbs, but not any brighter. Their 65W/45W = 120W/95W claim is pure fantasy. If you believe that, I got a nice bridge for sale in Brooklyn, NY.
