Help On A Maxima

Okay guys, the maxima i WAS lookin at has been sold....but i found another one im gonna go check out and drive tommarow. Its a 91 se black, spoiler, black leather, auto, moonroof 109k mi...hes the second owner with ALL reciepts from him and previous ownew. no accidents at all, non smoker, leathe ris in great condition cept the seems are showing on one little spot on the driver side. And on the passenger side he said the window doesnt go down because it needs a sprocket or somethin? he says the window motor is good tho. Does that sound right? Says the transmission is still excellent, doesnt slip and he got it flushed regulary and maintained the car well. Hes asking 4300 though and i checked and blue book is 4100 if in EC and 3700 if in good condition. I told him about this and he said the price is negotionable. So when i go to look at it tommarow is there anything i should know about that is prone to happen on these that i should ask about? Im am a college student and dont wanna get ripped and need a nice reliable car. Please help me with this and tell me your thoughts and what i should do.

The window problem sounds like it's the window regulator. This is a very common problem for 3rd gen maximas. You can get a new, better window regulator for about $60-70 from www.courtesyparts.com or your local dealer. Instructions for replacement are on my page - www.prism.gatech.edu/~gte671n/mymax.html in the how-to section. It's a pretty easy fix so dont be scared by that. If you need more info about that, search; there's tons of threads already about it.

The car sounds pretty good, run the VIN number through carfax and take it to a trusted mechanic to check it out. You could probably get the price down a little from that - maybe closer to $3000. Personally, I'd try to get a manual transmission but that's just me. 3rd gen automatic transmissions aren't the most durable trannies out there, but they can work well if you take care of them (search for more info again).

Read the 3rd gen FAQs post at the top of this forum and the 'read this first' post and look through those sites for more info.
