window problem (NOT REGULATOR)

hi everyone,

My drivers side window sometimes just does NOT want to roll down. I press the auto roll down switch and can sometimes hear a click but it doesnt roll down. The standard roll down switch doesn't work either. All the others roll up/down just fine, too. It usually works after driving a couple minutes but its a PITA. Damn electrical gremlins. Can anyone help?

BTW- 89 SE, Regulator HAS been replaced on that window too.

It's probably the actual switch itself. Buy a used (known to be working one) from someone parting out their car and see if that fixes it. Bet so.

update:

Well, I took the switch box out of the door compartment, and as i press the down or up switch, i hear an audible click coming from the sealed plastic box, like a circuit being switched, but nothing happens. If the engine is running, it will roll down. I'm stumpped.

How much is a new/used switch box??

My front driver's window was doing something kind of like that, except it wasn't wanting to roll up after it was down. I knew my regulators were fine, since I,ve replaced all of them within the last year. So I started asking around and everyone seemed to think it was my switch. Since it was the master switch that controlled all of the windows, I figured it would be expenxsive. I was right, A new one at the dealership was going to run me about 117.00. Since I wasn't 100% sure it was the switch, I didn't want to replace it with a "brand new" one, if it wasn't even going to fix it. I started asking around and found someone that had just purchased a parts car and they sold the switch to me for 30.00. I bought it and it fixed it right up, saving me 87.00. Never underestimate the power of the forum. They know all......

Try to lube up the window tracks. They may have dried up not letting the window to move freely. Silicone spray works well...I wouldnt use wd40 too much, that stuff isnt fun to clean off windows.

I repared mine. it is a relay that the contact have burnt out. the relay is only like $5. I also painted new contacts on the rubber touch pad.

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....t=relay+window

I still cannot find the orginal thread (they must have deleated it). If you arent inclined enough to mount new relays, then just get it from courtesy parts.

like Eric said, Courtesy Nissan is a good place www.courtesyparts.com or your local nissan dealer or a junkyard

I purchased the relay from a local electronics store (a good one), but radio shack might have something. Its important to measure the coil resistance on the relay, then buy a relay with a similar resistance (but not too low of a value otherwise it'll draw too much current), a higher value is fine, and you will also want the new relay to have the same pin arrangement as the original (so it'll fit nicely).

If you dont know what you are doing though, buy it from courtesy parts.
