Piece of plastic under drivers side of car

Ok, I'm sure this is a pretty simple problem, but I dont like driving around with it like this. Today I was walking towards my car and I saw a something hanging down undernearth the car, approximately under the drivers seat. So I looked under the car and its a piece of plastic that covers something up. I'm not really sure but it looks like either the screws let go or the plastic screw holes broke on the side towards the end of the car. Does anyone know what it is that the piece of plastic is protecting? If its nothing big, I'll just drive my car till i can get around fixing it. But if its something serious, I"m just going to let it sit till i can get it fixed. Unfortunately, I'm at college and I forgot my Haynes book at home and the parking lot I'm in is gravel. Any advice is appreciated! Thanks!!

If it runs under the drivers side from front to back (somewhat C-shaped & about 3' long), it's the plastic protector for the fuel and rear brake lines.

If you live in an area that uses salt on the roads during the winter months, you better take a look at the 5 lines (2 brake & 3 fuel)under this protector. They tend to corrode and the brake lines can actually spring a leak.

This happened to me about 3 years ago and the parts cost about $125 plus 3hrs labor from the Nissan dealer. You really need a lift to get under the car and remove stuff in order to install new pipes. A real pita!

Yeah, you're right. I pretty much fixed it today. Duct tape and a coat hanger. I looked at the lines underneath it and they looked pretty good. Thanks for the advice though!
