What to do for my first mods...

Ok, I finally have some money, and the car is working pretty well, But what are some good mods to start out on? Like kind of simple, but that'll help in the long end? Or what are the basic ones you guys started with?

intake is the simplest mod to begin with, takes 15-30 minutes to install and improves power some and makes your car sound great!

Yay intake!

Ok, I'll do that then :O My freind has that, I originally wante d it but I thought it lloked like it would be pretty hard to do. Where could I get an intake kit(checkers, autostore, exec), or do I just buy the peices seperatly? About how much would did yours cost?

try these:
www.custommaxima.com
www.driverfx.com
http://store.yahoo.com/southwestauto...ore/index.html
you'll have a few intakes to choose from and some of the pricing is pretty good.

if you want to save a little, try doing the homemade intake. Do a search for homemade intake and there are some instructions around here. I can take some pics of the adaptor if you decide to try it.

Hmmmm... is that custom maxima a good place to buy? They have a "1989-1999 NISSAN MAXIMA JIM WOLF TECHNOLOGY INTAKE" for $119 -$131 with shipping... is that a good deal? Would that all I would need to be able to attach it, or would I have to get hoses and other stuff?
And you said it's pretty easy to install?

If you're going to seriously mod your car for any sort of speed beyond stock, your first 'mod' should be to buy two extra trannys and learn how to remove your front axle. Trust me

Yes, I agree with that!
My next few mods are going to be all stopping/cornering mods before I make it go fast... But I love my intake
Living in New England, if you can corner, you can race with a POS car.... Like beating the pants off a Rustang Conbra in an '83 Ares because he didn't know how to corner on dirt

I'm kind of new to cras(but am prett good at fixing/taking apart stuff), but what are trannys? I always thought it was short for "transmission"
Is that dealing with replacing the suspension and stuff? I saw alot of those suspension springs on those modding sites.. :L

Yeah, tranny = transmission, but that's different from suspension. What they mean is that if you drive your car hard and fast, you're going to kill your tranny pretty quick and have to repair it...it's what makes your car go so it's pretty important (the gears and stuff that drive the front axle)

And is there any difference between the jim wolf intake and the stillen? Do they sound different/help more/less? Or are they pretty much the same thing?

But I just got the transmission on my car replaced, and the trans itself cost about $800, and there was $1400 in labor! I don't think I could afford 2 of them to play around with for that much!

They're basically the same...I have the JWT and I LOVE it...Stillen costs waaay too much for what you get, you're paying for the name. I strongly recommend the JWT! Installation was a piece of cake, too. The only tricky part was getting the last bolt off the stock airbox, it's right by what looked to me like a brake line and I didn't want to whack that with the wrench...but all in all, really straighforward, 20-40 minutes by yourself maybe less with a friend.

Ok, thanks. But would it be better to get it online, or would a local store have it? Is there just a "generic" intake, or are they specifically designed for each type of car? What kind of local places would have it?

I bought mine from CustomMaxima for $120, I bought it at the same time as my PIAA head and foglights and clear-corners from them (a highly recommended cosmetic mod). I don't think any local stores woul sell a JWT intake, but you can buy a generic cone filter (or a K&N) and look around for a MAF adapter that'll work for our cars, people have done that in the past and saved some $$$. But if you jts want to buy it and bolt it on without worrying if everything will fit together, get the JWT online

I just bought it online there... $131 with shipping, I hope it's neat So it'll give a little boost in horse power AND make the engine sound better?(that nice harley davison roar )
I don't know wxactly what clear corners are for. I think they replace the plastic on the side light with creal plastic, but does that make it look better? How so?

Basicly it clears out the yellow portion of your corner reflector and replaces it with a clear one. It's mainly a cosmetic mod, just makes the car look alot better.

And they look realllly cool at night if you put a Polarg blue bulb instead of an amber yellow bulb...the clear part is crystallized looking and it shimmers like a blueish prizm...so awesome! I need to take some good pix of mine...maybe tonight. I am uploading some pics of my engine bay right now, about to make a post about it...I think my VTs were already grounded when I bought my car!
