oil lleak?

Well guys maybe you can help me out as to waht you may think that it is, but I seem to have a oil leak, it seems as though its coming from the passenger side, its motor oil, and about every 1000 miles it leaks about a half quart. Now I got under there and looked around and the only thing that I could see was that that oil pan had some wettness to it, and some rust on the bolts that hold it on.... Has anyone replaced one of these before? cost? ease of install? Other thing is, is there a replacable crank seal on that side of the motor? Thanks guys and let me know what you think

I'm guessing it's simply the drain plug you're looking at. Do you change the oil yourself? Most people use crush washers now, and you NEED to change the crush washer EVERY TIME you change oil...it used to be that you would use O-rings and it wasn't that bad to re-use them as long as you rub a little bit of the new oil onto it everytime...so first I would definitely try just putting on a new crush washer, making sure the plug isn't stripped, and making sure the filter is screwed in real tight too.

90maxSE--

When I am looking for the source of a leak that isn't obvious I generally start by cleaning the item of interest, e.g. engine, power steering unit, etc. Depending on the item, this may be with a can of engine cleaner spray or with a pressure washer, like they have at the local self-serve carwash places.

If I'm still having trouble finding the leak I'll add some ultraviolet dye to whatever it is I'm investigating, engine oil in your case. With a black light (at night) it's easy to find the source of the leak. Most auto supply stores carry the uV dye ($3-5). It's probably cheaper to buy the black light from your neighborhood head shop ($12-15) than from the auto supply store.
