rear brake question?
Are the third generation Maximas equipped with a float level indicator in the master cylinder? and also is it a common failure for the rear wheel cylinders to leak externally? Any information would help. thanks

yes, there is a level sensor on the brake fluid cylinder, it activates the "BRAKE" light on the dash (the same one as the parking brake lights up) so a lot of people think they have a problem with their parking brake because the light stays on but it's really because their brake fluid is low

if the rear cylinders are leaking, you'll probably need to rebuild the caliper

I have no idea; I dont hear about it very often though. I rebuilt mine because the caliper started sticking, but it still wasn't leaking

Are you referring to the drum or disc rear brakes?
The drums are pretty common to leak after many years. new/reman wheel cylinders are about $35 each at a parts store. I've changed both on my 93GXE, and changed another set on a friend's 90 a few months back. both cars had around 110k on them when they needed replacing.

I'm going to try to make it back up that way before winter, but no promises.. have half a dozen projects I want to finish on the car too, like the stereo at minimum.
Then it's back on the turbo project, not that I've got my brakes up to par for a 300hp car.
