Please Help Diagnose

Just had power steering pump and high pressure power steering hose replaced again. No leaking, but sometimes hear a slight whinning from that location. Especially on startup and just turning the wheels? Could it be the belt, pulley, or pump itself?

It could be that you're low on fluid or you have air in the system..perhaps when you had the pump and hose replaced a component like a seal or something was left out accidently. But check the fluid level first remember to use ATF and not power steering fluid, if that's cool, bleed the system of air, which is very easy jack up the front end open power steering resevoir, turn the wheels and lock it hard to one end, then hard to the other end, do this quite a few times, then start the car and do the same thing over and over, that'll get rid of the air, if any. good luck.

Could also be just a loose, glazed or otherwise slipping belt. Check tightness of belt (WITH MOTOR STOPPED). There's a procedure in the book, but I just find a longer span of unsupported belt and press on it with my thumb, (may need to get under car). Belt shouldn't have more than about 1/4 to 1/2 inch deflection with a good bit of pressure. If much more, belt is loose. Don't overtighten or it leads to bearing failure on any or all belt driven components. Could be glaze from slipping. Check pulley for kind of black, glassy coat on pulley or on inside of belt. Perhaps try belt sticky spray (can't remember name, but can get at parts store).

air bubble in system

i had my power steering hose replaced last year and had the same thing happen, I took it back to the shop and they more carefully bled and filled the system and made sure no air bubble...sound went away. They did it for free of course since there's not supposed to be air bubbles right after you get it fixed!

CRS I wish I could help you out bro, but I'm puzzled myself! the only time I had that prob was when my PS hose was leaking...after that was fixed the whining and noised stopped, maybe its your pump??
