Top speed poll

I just want to know who's gone how fast in what model/year/engine/transmission of Maxima and maybe, if you feel like it, where? I'll go first. I pansied out at 135 in my '93 SE 5spd with the VE engine on the tollway stretch between HWY. 59 the Eastex FRWY and I-45 in Houston, Texas.

top speed
Same car, same road (between I-10 and SW FWY) 143 on the dial. I wish I would have taken a close reading of the tach, so I could have corrected for actual spead. My 225/60-15 are real close to oem tire size circumference, but not identiacal. The engine sounds like music.

Well...the speedo in my VG GXE auto was saying about 132-134ish. Dang thing ends at 125. I've made 2 speed runs. First one was on the stock suspenders, I ran out of flat, straight (farm country) road and it had just barely passed 125 before I had to slow down. Second run a couple months later got to drag limited speed and the tokicos had been on for awhile--much more controlled. I don't know what it actually was, but it's "sufficient"--definately more than I will ever need.

I've only had my '89 VG SE 5sp up to 105mph, the truck in front of me wouldn't move. I had emergeancy blinkers on and flashings brights and horn blowing. I think he did it just to **** me off. A guy I know said he had a 4th gen up to 150 mph in his girlfriend's Max, she backed him up, I don't know.

I took my car up to 115 yesterday morning with no problem, didn't look at the tach just the speedo cause i didn't wanna take my eyes off the road and wanted to keep control since i'm still on all stock suspension. Was doing 95, punched it to 115 like nothing, and still had some pedal to go, and didnt' hear the engine revving like mad.

I may open it up this weekend if the weather stays good and see if i can get in the high 30's.

a couple weeks ago, I was clocked at 142 by a cop that knows my family.. When he hit his lights, I thought I was gonna be spending the night down at County.. Luckily for me, it was a guy I knew, and he just griped me out and sent me on my way.. I DID see the radar and it did say 142..

Re: I did 180 MPH!
Ummm.. I have to point out that that picture is a fake. I made that picture in Photoshop last year for April fools day.
It's actually a picture of my car doing about 70 mph on 101 in Central California, I just moved the dial needles around a little bit.
btw. I'm not even sure a VE (or VG or VQ) could hit 9000 rpm unless you forced it into too low of a gear, past the synchros which would be upset. For example, shifting into 1st at 40-50 mph, or shifting into 2nd at 100 mph. I can think of no way to hit 9000 by accelerating, the fuel cutoff will stop your fun around 6700 rpm.

Re: MPH
i hit around that same speed, 125mph and it felt like a speed limiter kicked in on me too. later thinking about it, i think it may have been a rev limiter, i wasnt looking at my guages closely just glanced down to catch the speed here and there. Pa roads are pretty curvy so i didnt want to take my eyes off the road for too long.

damn, you guys are crazy...
I haven't went over 80 in a loooooong time, i think when I raced my friends Camry I hit 85, not sure... my usual speed is no higher then 60, maybe 70 sometimes, thats on the Belt parkway 2 A.M. speed limit being 50, but everyone who is still on it is going no less then 60.
My highest was 108 on the Verazanno Bridge.![Smilie](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Re: Re: Re: I did 180 MPH!
Well if you go to about 90 mph and then jam the tranny into 1st gear, I can probably guarantee you your engine would see 9000 revolutions per minute. Just before a few of your rods decide to take an unannounced vacation from the rest of your engine.

you'd have to be an idiot to think our car could hit 9000rpm! (then again, there are people here that would believe me if I told them I did)
