ok i had to slam (not skiding) on the brakes to avoid a deadly crash.... yea im fine.. it was fun (not being dead and all) anyway- my brakes are *squeellin* up a storm! not when i press them but when there rollin and cold.. they feel fine. i think im goin to have to buy new rotors b/c it sounds liek im doing some bad grinding, i would look at them but i cant get the wheel off..

take it to a shop man...I bet its a frozen caliper though, IMO the grinding noise while crusing is the clue for me.Originally posted by ChrisCheezer

they should squeal maybe after they are first put on or have sat for a while, but if yours are squealing constantly somehting is wrong...
heh...I wouldn't just "turn up the volume" and forget about something as important as your brakes!

Yeah, my brakes are all messed up too. Lets see, i took teh wheel off the front ones and the rotors couldnt come off cause the freakin lugnut was tight as a ****. i got a big wrench with a 10 foot pole, and still culdn budge that shhh. oh, and the rear brakes squeek too. haha, want to hear some crazy stuff? my lil brother took my car for a spin and left the brake on, and the rear drivers rotor was glowing red. and smoke and stuff, at first i thought he blew the clutch, becasue he doesn't know how to downshift. it was some nutz.
same kinda happened 2 me...let my friend move the car and she left the e-brake on cause she's used 2 a stick...i didnt realize it cause the ebrake sux so bad till i stopped at a light and smelled it, then saw the little bita smoke...man i was pi$$ed but live goes on...couldnt get the damn smell out 4 days....
on the brake issue...i couldnt get my lugs off b/f, so i put 2 vise grips on each end 4 extra torque...damn shop put the wheels on so tight i TWISTED the lug wrench...i would just take your car back 2 the shop that put the wheels on 2 hard 2 begin w/...

Try a pneumatic impact wrench. See if you can borrow one or just get the guy at the gas station to loosen them and re-torque them to spec. Maybe they're rusted on, and impact wrenches are great at losening these, or they've been overtightened by a gorilla where you got your last tires. Either way an impact wrench should loosen the lug nuts.Originally posted by ChrisCheezer

you might want to consider NOT tailgating or drive more defensively since your brakes are grinding. let me know when you're on the rd so i'm not.Originally posted by ChrisCheezer

You haven't even identified the problem yet, so it doesn't make any sort of sense to go ahead purchase parts that may not be needed. Those pads you're getting probably suck **** anyway. Originally posted by ChrisCheezer

The first thing you need to do is get the wheel(s) off and see what's going on. It could be your parking brake is stuck, which happens a bit. Could be a seized caliper like da max said.
If you can't turn the lugs by hand, put a socket over it and put a pipe over the wrench, if that doesn't work, get a longer pipe. If you still can't get it done, take your car to a shop and tell them to rotate the tires, like $10. They'll rotate the tires (which you need to do anyway) and when they're putting the wheels on, make sure they don't over torque the lugs.
well anyway..good luck and keep the car off the road until you fix the problem.

i had the same problem as u. At first my brakes squeeled when coming to a stop, then the noise got worse when i drove fast. After that i noticed that it takes me longer tp brake than it used to and i heard a noise when driving around from my wheels. i figured the caliper wasn't moving, but when i pressed on the brake a few times the noise would stop. Then stupid me just kept driving till i heard a grinding noise at stops. Once i heard that, i knew something serious was wrong. So i looked at my rotors, they were scraped up so i bought new front rotors and pads, and they work fine now. No squeel at all... drives like new....

so no problem with your calipers? I had the same problem, but i only replaced my pads. They were down to nothing in 10000 miles. I get the high pitched squeel every so often but no more grinding noises.Originally posted by disgookonfiya

the guy i brought my car to just said i rode to long with my brakes messes up. he never really explained to me what was wrong. I think i might have just rode to long and the brake pads were worn all the way down. And i only put about less than 10000 miles on them too. B/c school is only like 1 mile round trip from my house, and i had my pads changed a year ago...
