DOOR CONVERSION Qs ....Craig,Matt,ect.

I was thinking about converting to GXE doors so I could have the
key pad. So my question is could I just get a control box and door and rewire them or is there something I am not thinking about.

there's a lot more to it
inside the door, there is the keypad and beeper (beeps when you push the buttons) and lots of wiring; if you switched the doors like you were thinking, this wouldn't be a problem
BUT I am pretty sure that the rest of the car is NOT prewired for this. So you'd have to run lots of wiring into the new control unit which has 20 or so wires going into it
there is a large 2 page schematic of it in the FSM and it's not somethign simple like plug this in here and run a wire or two
also, you'd have to paint the trim on the GXE doors since they have a chrome molding on them instead of the black SE molding (unless you switched all 4 doors)

I really dont think it's worth the time and effort, just get a remote keyless entry and put that in; it's much easier than doing this

also, if you're concerned about getting locked out of your car, you can run a new wire into the unlock signal at the door lock timer, then hide the other end of that wire somewhere on the outside/underneath the car (be sure to cover the end of the wire). Then you take off the cover and ground that wire to the chassis and you can unlock your doors. There are plenty of good locations for this (no, I'm not gonna post mine ).

Yeah, especially since the keypad isnt even cool.

I personally think it's rather pointless and fugly (not to offend any GXE guys). Are people really THAT lazy? Most of all, I just cant stand the look of keypads on doors.

Just get a remote keyless entry and call it a day.

hey man, I've got the keypad

I use it when it gets cold because when I first got my car, my key broke off in the lock during the winter. I guess I'm just lazy AND paranoid. hehe

hey if you have it on your stock maixma good for you. The point people are trying to get across this thread is that it's not worth converting the keypad to another Maxima which is not equipped with a keypad stock.

Yeah, keyless entry on an alarm would be better. Although the keypad is really usefull, if you need to grab someting out of the car, but left the key, or if you want to open the trunk, but don't have the inside door on..
It's good and helpful for alot of things, but for a $400 alaram system, you could do just as much, if not more(unroll windows, open trunk, unlock/lock start car..)

Not saying it is a good way to spend money....I with everyone else that it isn't worth it to do a conversion...just saying it is usefull and i'm glad to have it.
I personally think it's rather pointless

How do you lock keys in a Max?

If i have my keys in the ignition the drivers door wont lock if the key is in the off position? Last time i remembered having to lock my door with the key before my doorlock timer went out on me. I have an alarm with keyless entry and trunk release now which i believe is a lot simpler then trying to convert to a keypad.

Re: How do you lock keys in a Max?

its helpful if i want to pop the trunk real quick, but other than that the keypad has become outdated due to keyless entry
