1) Remove everything you need to get to the lifters buried deep in the heads
2) Clean lifters
3) Reinstall everything in reverse order in 1)

Done

Dude you cannot 'clean' lifters, at least not by hand. If the lifter is badly worn, it needs to be replaced. The only other thing you can to do 'free up' sticking lifters is to either run a motor flush (following the directions). Or try an engine additive like 'CD-2' (the one meant for lifters).

well i was browsing around the internet and a guy said that to help remove the dirt and gum that builds up around the lifters would be to do an oil change and fill it with 3 quarts oil and 1 quart transmission fluid, dive it for 3000 miles and repeat for another 3000 miles . he said that the tranny fluid has a high deterget in it that would clean em.
isn't this bad for the engine and oil?
if not then i'll try that this weekend, and i'll take a look into that cd-2
if that doesn't work i'll just replace em.
p.s thanks for the info on how to clean Jeff but i need it barney style.... i'm not mechanically inclined at all.
but i wanna try and do this myself.
Thanks for you help everyone

Try Marvel Mystery Oil instead of tranny fluid.....at least MMO is rated for engine use.....
