The nylon cable that raises and lowers the antenna is broken. I tried diassembling it and fixing it to no avail. The OEM one is extremely expensive, at about $300.
I bought a cheap aftermarket one from the local car parts place, and, after trying out some different wireing until it went up when the radio was turned on, and removing the upper tube with seal from the old one and jury rigging it onto the new antenna to mount it, the new one works just fine.

I got an OEM mast a while back for $60 from my local dealer (which is not a very cheap place either). I've heard of a few others getting it for closer to $40.
Also, check ebay, they have them on there sometimes

I'm getting a new mast put on for $90 at the dealer. I'm getting ripped-off.

Fantastic instructions! Thanks for sharing.

By the way, do you think the same instructions will apply to the 4th gen?
