re: hood strut

hey guys,

have you guys ever changed the hood strut before? i ordered from alloemautoparts.com, and the hood strut that i received doesn't have a bracket riveted to the strut. i guess that i have to return it. are there websites where you ordered your hood strut and it works for the 93' maxima gxe?

thanks,

stephen

My replacement struts also lacked a bracket. Check the directions. If you have the right parts, it will tell you what to do. For me, I had to drill the rivets out of my old brackets. I then used to supplied hardware to attach the bracket to my new struts. It was simple.

The direction doesn't tell me to drill the rivets out of the old brackets. Also, the hole isn't big enough for the new pin to get through. I just wanna get a part which can just fit perfectly with no major work. thanks for your input anyway. anyone knows where i can get one which fit perfectly?

I got my Strong Arms at www.carparts.com and they fit perfectly. You have to get a Left and a Right one. The brackets are a mirror image of one another. I love not using a golf club to hold up my hood.

Another trick is to take hose clamps and put them on the strut BODY (the black part) and clamp them down really good (closest to the shiny stainless shaft). It SHOULD squeeze the strut enough to keep it from falling down, yet allow it to open and close normally.
Its pretty ghetto, and doesnt work if they are really worn, but an idea none the less. I am not responsible for injuries if you try this!
