VE ASP udp install questions

I have a problem, and I'll get to the point quick. I am trying to install the ASP udp on my 92SE, and everything went smoothly until I had to put the new ASP udp on.

It won't fit.

The old pulley slid right off, and can slide right back on, but the new udp just will not get on. Unfortunately, a friend of mine banged away at it with a rubber mallet but it still didn't go on and now i'm afraid there's engine damage.

What should I do?
And is there possible engine damage?

Thanks in advance,
QMax

i had the same problem... get some sand paper and sand down as much as you can. wrap the sand paper around a pipe with a close diameter to the udp. don't try to force it in anymore..... you WILL damgae your crank/engine. that or call asp.

All ASP UDP are like that, when I installed mine a few years back I had the same problem. I shaved the innner diameter of the pulley with various tools until I got a snug fit over the crank. It's not as loose as the OEM pulley (as you mentioned I can slide the OEM pulley off/on by hand) but it's not going anywhere. It's tight to the point where I need a puller to remove the pulley. I too had called ASP about this situation and they said it was designed that way on purpose for a tight fit, in my opinion it's too tight. If and when you're ready to install the belts be prepared to make a few trips to the parts store because either one or two of the belts ASP recommend will not fit. I also told them their belt info was wrong hopefully by now they have changed it.

Taken care of

Thank you for the tips, they were very handy, and i got the udp to fit nice and snug using some 60 grit aluminum oxide sandpaper. I wish somebody else had mentioned this, because my searches came up with nothing! It would have saved me some time, is all.

The udp feels great, and i got the correct belt sizes using the search function, so everything went really smoothly. It's a noticable improvement.

Thanks again.
