speed cut off?

I was woundering, I own a 92 SE 5spd and I was racing again my friends Navigator(rental) And when I got to 210 it seem to stop accelerating as if there was a speed cut off. Could it be because itès a canadian model?

Re: speed cut off?

probably governed. I would advise you not to talk about street racing here...not a wise idea.

I know on the US models, there is no speed governor, several guys with 92-94SEs (the VE engine) have gone well over 140 with no problem. I'm not advising it, but the car is strong enough to get there.
The VG will get up there too, it just takes a little longer because the VG topend isn't that strong (not VG bashing, I used to have a 89GXE I loved, but it died in the topend)

Re: Re: speed cut off?

just curious, but is the speed governor located in the ECU?

Hey quick question
I have a 90 SE and I have experienced the situation where the car seems to falter and then slow when i hit about 125+. But are you saying there is no speed governor on the 90 SE or do you know? Thanks

Re: Re: Re: speed cut off?

no governor...your engine might have issues...maybe fuel flow or sumpth...i'd advice you get your ride to perfect working condition before tasking it that way.

NO us or canada-spec Maxima is governed. If you couldn't get over 128mph, then there is/was a problem with your car.

no kidding. the only think keeping me under 130 in my bone stock gxe is the suspension. (I don't like that floaty feeling )

Could it possible be the rev limiter at 5500rpm that you hit that causes the car to seem to die. I think that is what mine was on my 94 GXE. I was coming back from Birmingham AL and me and this VW Jetta were just getting our roll on...he would lead for a bit then I would lead (not racing) but at about 115-120mph my car started to act like it was sputering out so I slowed and it had regained power. When I got back to that speed it did it again. I noticed when you send your computer in for a revamp they (JWT) they raise the rev limiter. This may be our problem and not a top speed limiter.
Good Luck

Nope.. try again. Rev limiter on a VG is 6200rpm. 6700 on a VE.
I've had my GXE clocked by a cop at 143 before with only an intake (and tons of suspension and brakes), so I know there's no governor on it.

probably what you're running into is the tranny trying to kick into OD from 3rd gear. at those speeds, it's a looong shift. takes almost two seconds.

143 w/ a VG? my 3rd gen SE buried the needle, but once the speedo hit 145, it didn't seem to go much faster. Didn't need CAI that day. ambient temp was 24 deg F.
