How to remove factory Bose single-din headunit?
How to remove factory Bose single-din headunit?
I'm helping my girlfriend diagnose her factory Bose stereo. Right now, when powering on, there is a loud POP, followed by pass front speaker faint, buzzy but little radio sound and left rear deck speaker same as front. Other speakers no sound whatsoever.
I'd like to get behind the factory headunit - in case later she will want to replace the factory system. Can anyone post step-by-step instructions on how to get the dash apart to remove headunit?
Thanks in advance!

As I recall it's pretty simple... You'll just need to look "under" most of the trim pieces and I think you'll find the screws. I think you'll need to remove the ashtray as well to get to one. You should find that it is very simple, you just need to look in the right locations for the screws. You may also need to remove the vents... I honestly cannot remember... it's been a 6 months or so since I was in my old Maxima. Also if you do replace anything, you'll have to replace everything. The Bose head unit only works with the Bose speakers, and the Bose speakers only work with the Bose head unit.
I replaced my entire setup with a Kenwood head unit, JBL 6x9's in the rear, and Polk 5 1/4 (I think the size is right) in the front. In the end it sounded WAY better than the Bose system ever did.
Good luck,

Good luck,
well if u want to take out the head unit, it is easy.. there are 2 screws, one under the ash tray and one under the cigarette lighter, undo those and easily pop off the trim panel. It is easier if u get it started from the top using a screw driver near the air condition controls. then after that u unhook the hazard light switch, cigarette lighter switch, and the power/comfort controller. After that it is just four screw to take off the bracket holding the head unit in. then unscrew the head unit from the brakce from the sides...
