ignition switch fuse

This is my first posting to this newsgroup (cheers), but I'm familiar with the site. As my handle suggests I have a 1990 SE that I just purchased last week. I had some work done to it (water pump, CV joints) and all was looking good until today. I tried to start it and nothing. Upon closer inspection I noted that the ignition switch fuse had blown, the 30 amp one in the engine compartment. I tried using the fuse from power windows (its the same part) and it got blown as I turned the key(so now I have no power windows). I know it could be harmful, but I shorted the fuse just to get it started and moved the car out of the way. I read a few threads where ppl had problems with starting their max's, that all were similar, but none of them mentioned this fuse. So I was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to what could be blowing this fuse. Thanks.
