computer problem

Sons car had a bad mass air flow sensor. It blew back smoke bad. Fixed problem, but car is still running doggy, and we have to let it warm up at an idle before we can put it in gear(dies). So I get a repair manual and try to check the five mode computer. But the red light never blinks. It is on steady from key turn on. I turn the computer switch screw clockwise but it never blinks. Any body know what is wrong. Bought the car cheap because it ran bad. found out previous owner removed check engine light bulb.

If it is and SE its only got 2 modes.

With Engine off and key on

You are in mode I Bulb or LED Check

Turn clockwise till you reach the stop wait 3 seconds turn back

mode II Blinks back the codes if any are stored

Don't know the GXE thats the SE

Re: computer problem

Thanks for replying to my question.
I am referring to the Chiltons repair manual. It states that 1993-1994 maximas with the VG30E motor has the five mode computer. My son's car is a 1993 with the VG30E engine. So, I assume it has the five mode computer. When my son gets home today, I'll try the test for the two mode just in case it is. Thanks Again for the reply
