Ive got 60miles on the gas light. I just decided to see how far I could get. I got to 300mi on the odometer, the light came on and I kept driving. I pussed out after 60mi. I didnt actually run out of gas.
I also dared to drive from Lincoln to Omaha (Nebraska) (60miles) with the gas light staring me right in the face when I left Lincoln. Well, I got about 3/4 the way there and interstate traffic was detoured off I-80 (probably because of a wreck) to a highway. I figured this was a sign that I needed to get gas there, so I did.

Driving to see how many miles you can get after the gas light comes on is good.....

a good way to ruin your fuel pump.

Why do you even let it get up to E before you refill? That is careless on your part. Take better care of your car.

Sometimes you can't help it. You could be out in the middle of nowhere, or maybe it's late at night and you can't find a gas station that is actually open. I hate when that happens

Because my gas light just happens to come on at 1/4 tank. I can drive over 100 miles (and regularly do) with the gas light on.
In my old max, the gas light came on about two BLOCKS before the car ran out of gas. don't ask how I know that one.

FYI, it's SUPPOSED to come on when there's ~2gallons of fuel left in the tank. at 23mpg, you've got about 45 miles to get to a station before you're empty. But as you can see from my other statements, the 2gallon thing is hardly a spec to stick by. the main rule is to fill it up before you get empty, and the light doesn't tell you much.

probably due to the movement of gas in the tank

i've noticed on a couple instances that my gas light will come on and off, then stay on for a while, then go away for a while, then come back on and stay on. it seemed that the first time was just a warning that your gas is getting low and that the second time it came on was a warning to take your *** to get some gas.

When my light comes on it means business. I can only get about 15 to 20 miles Max.
