fans not shutting off

Does anyone know where the sensor is located that turns the fans on and off and what this sensor is called? This thing is really starting to agravate me. They turn on as soon as I start the car and don't stop till I turn the car off. You know how hard it is to get some heat out of this thing. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Now theres more to this problem. The car is idling really high when its in park and sometimes its not starting up right away. It just cranks. The check engine light is not coming on so thats no help. Has anyone else ever experienced these things before? Somebody please help.

check the engine temp sensor. if it goes bad or the connections get corroded (which is a common problem), the fans will always stay on.

Also check your coolant level. if it's low, there could be an air pocket at the sensor causing the engine to think it's hot. several things could be wrong. first thing to do is check the coolant level and make sure you're up to spec there.

with the engine racing that could be from the idle air control valve (IACV). Do a search, it can be cleaned out.

It could also be a bad TPS, throttle positioning sensor. Its also posible that it may only need adjusting.

Yeah, I had that same problem. If you replace the engine temp sensor, like someone said before, it should right your problem. It is a yellow and red connector located a little below and behind you distributor(VG). If you follow the collant hose back you'll see it. Its ~$45, if I remember correctly. And easy to replace yourself. Just unscrew the old one and screw the new one back in.

Mine started doing this too. They'll either stay on forever, or they click on and off in intervals of a few seconds. Driving me nuts too. I pulled a Code 13 out of the computer. (Bad Head temp. sensor) You may want to check your computer for the codes.

Same Part?

Hello Friends

I have the same symptoms as you have described and will go ahead and replace this part. Can someone tell me if the "Coolant Temp Sensor" and "Engine Temp Sensor" are the same thing (and the part that is being discussed)? Thank you!!!
