Reducing Interior Noise
*HELP* How Do I Reduce Wind Noise
ok, i have a 1991 SE 5speed, with 154,000miles on it...it get rather loud inside at about 60 and increases when going faster(not that i ever go fast..hehehehe), but i was wondering if there is a way to reduce the noise without too much expense and what do i need?...thanks
oh i forgot...i have a friend with a 1991 GXE and his is significantly more quiet inside...its not the engine thats loud, it is the wind noise

my car has loud noise at high speeds that sounds like wind noise, but i think its road noise from the tires. sounds about the same as wind noise but when i go over a bridge it changes tone. iv been trying to figure out why for months now hehe...
you can get the weather stripping at your locel dealer.. I wouldn't recommend buying aftermarket stuff there..
also make sure the door frame isn't bent.. try to figure out where the air/wind noise is coming from.. stick a strip of paper about 2" wide in the door frame, then slam the door on it.. try to pull it out.. if it's tight, then you don't have any air leaks. if it slides out, then the wind noise could be coming from that area.. try it across several places on the top part of your door (around the window frame area)..
also check and make sure there's not a pebble or something in the window trim that is keeping your window from rolling up completely.. I've found that to be a problem quite often too.

I seem to have the same problem with noise on a 92 SE and as prevoiusly noted, it seems to be more (though not entirely) a matter of road than wind noise, especially at speeds in excess of 60 mph). I concur too with the observation that the 3G GXEs are quiter inside than the SEs.
Could it have anything to do with suspension or tyre type?
Has anyone with an SE overcome or reduced significantly the

Ok I did what Matt93GXE said about checking the door seal...the driver side door must not be sealed well, i also noticed while diving today, that the sunroof makes quite a bit of noise too(i dont have the cover anymore for it, but that shouldnt matter...right?). So then i checked the driver door...looking at the weather stripings, how does it come off? it looks like it will have to be cut off, but what if it makes it worse..
Any ideas?
I dont know why the GXE are quiter, maybe the suspension...but i am new here so i dont know much.

The sun roof inside cover does make a noise difference.
The first, outer seal, goes along the "A" pillar and continues along the top of the body around and down the "C" pillar. I don't think it's glued on at all. Just start peeling it off by the base of the windshield. This is the main seal for keeping out wind noise.
If SE's are noiser, it's transmitted tire/road noise.

Sorry about the old post, but I've been having the same damn issues. I just put in Dynamat in all four of my doors in hopes of better stereo performance. The biggest difference I noticed was in interior noise: much quieter at all speeds. Anyone else have any experience with Dynamat? I was thinking of putting this stuff on the bottom of the car also (under carpet). Think this would help? or just be a big waste of time and money?
DynoMat is worth it!!!
I used a "rubberized" spray in a can on the plastic pieces in the fenderwells and it's helped a little.
My Dynomat theory: The more the better...but too much will slow you down (weight)....

91 GXE
My GXE also has wind noise at about 70mph (or i would expect it does cuz i never wen that fast before hehe) i always thought that maybe the front windshield was replaced but i am not sure...i would say this is a common prob on all 3rd gen maxs

While parked overnight on my street, my drivers side mirror was hit by a stupid hit-and-run schmuck.
It did not break the mirror but I noticed a teeny chip near
where the mirror mounts to the frame.
Since then, at fast highway speeds, I hear a whine coming exactly from that area.
Check to see if you have any little chips or nicks around the mirror area or plastic mount.
