JDM Engines: Where is a good place to get them?

OKay, my car has totally bit the big one. Right as it aproaches the quarter million mile mark, the engine is getting severely worn. I am interested in getting an engine to swap into it. I have bad injectors, noisy lifters, shot head temp sensor, shot o2 sensor, occasional fits of black smoke for no reason, occasional non-starting for no reason, and the list goes on. I would like to know more about the imported JDM engines and where I can get one.

google is indeed my friend, however a google search turned up several sources for honda engines, and several broken geocities sites claiming the lowest prices. I thought I remembered someone getting hold of a JDM VG a while back.

Are you looking to swap in a completely different motor from another car or just looking for a jdm maxima engine?

I was actually looking at JDM Honda engines... but I came across this. I am clueless to how trustworthy they are but the site seems pretty legit. You might want to ask around some more.

found this one off of google... never heard of them either.

I'm looking to swap a completely different engine in. I was thinking JDM because of the fairly low cost and low mileage. It should just be a drop in right? I called one place and they quoted $800 + Freight. Parts are guaranteed for 6 months. Less than 50k also guaranteed.

what do you man "differen engine"??

$700-800 for a 50K sounds good, freight should be about $100 or so I'm thinking. are the pumps and all the accessories tested and included?

Don't put too much faith in that one. Unless your importer has actual employees over there working the lots he'd have little idea what miles are on the motor or even what individual car its pulled from. Most of these guys put in a mass order with a Japanese contact and just receive a container full of stuff 2 months later. From experience import engines are a bit of a lucky dip, especially 10+ year old ones.

How can anyone prove its got more miles once its arrived?

Japan has one of the strictest emmisions in the world thanks to laws passed by the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). I believe Japan is second to Germany. The cars are recycled every so many years, hence the lower mileage.

It is also notable, in Japan driving is considered more a luxury than a necessity. The public transportation is excellent in Japan, and people simply don't drive nearly as much as we do. Again, this is all because of close ties of the LDP to the contruction industry.

Its not correct to think that 'all' cars reach end-of-life after a few years in Japan. Theres nothing to stop older cars being used other than increased on-road costs and tighter inspections. Theres still high milage stuff floating around.

well, I'm a total moron sometimes... turns out I can get all the parts to fix the things wrong with my engine for much less because I work at a dealer. (Not Nissan ) but I still get them at this "Dealer swap" price. I got a new o2 sensor today, cost 85 bucks. Looks like I'll just do that. Thanks for the help though.

Oh, and I meant to put "quotes" around the 50k statement. I know as well that theres no true guarantee.

We do Jeep/Volvo/VW. The only cars there that I care for are the Grand Cherokee, the Passat, and the new Volvo XC90 coming in January.
